Fun fact for context: the Leafs last won the cup just 10 days after McDonald’s sold the first Big Mac.
Second round QBs who proved their doubters wrong
# of teams to win 3 straight Super Bowls = # of teams to be shutout in the Super Bowl #superbowllix
The Doncic-Davis trade ensures that the Lakers will maintain one of sports’ most incredible standards. In 77 years since the team began in Minneapolis, there have only been 2 seasons (‘16-17 & ‘17-18, between Kobe & LeBron) in which the team did not feature a future Hall of Famer.
And remember, 1982 was a strike-shortened season, in which 8 teams from each conference made the playoffs.
Of those 37 instances, only ONE other division, the 1982 AFC Central, went winless (CIN, PIT, CLE went 0-3)
2024 was the 36th and 37th time one division sent at least three teams to the postseason (NFC North & AFC West)
Even if you subtract one win per team (for the 17 game season) the 37 wins would tie most-ever for any division’s postseason participants. And that was the 1994 NFC Central which sent FOUR teams to the playoffs.
The NFC North's playoff teams accounted for 40 wins during the regular season which ws the most for any division’s postseason participants in any season
Some stunning notes about the NFC North after the Commanders upset of the Lions:
This was actually the latest power play goal scored in NHL regular season history.
20 of the 35 1st rd QBs active in 2024 are in the NFL playoffs, including backups D Jones (Min), Bridgewater (Det), Z Wilson (Den), Trubisky (Buf), Wentz (KC), Pickett (Phi), Mariota (Was),& Fields (Pit). R Wilson (3rd) & J Hurts (2nd) are only non 1st rd starters.
The Jets single season TD pass record is 31 by Ryan Fitzpatrick in 2015. Only two FORMER Jets QBs have exceeded that mark and both did it for the Vikings: Brett Favre with 33 in 2009 and Sam Darnold with 32 (and counting) this season.
Rickey Henderson's career stats (R, BB, & SB) are staggering, but his career longevity makes the news of his untimely death even more shocking. In 25 seasons, Henderson faced 1,285 different pitchers. That's equal to 1 OF EVERY 9 pitchers in AL & NL HISTORY. RIP Rickey.

Bo Nix is trying to become the first rookie QB in Broncos history to start a playoff game. Only two rookie QBs have ever started for an AFC West team in the postseason. Who are they?
Drazen is a very nice touch.
Bizarre sports fact of the day: No NY Ranger has led the NHL in goals since BEFORE the Original Six Era. Last to do so was Lynn Patrick in 1941-42 (the last season with 7 teams)
True, but with the Broncos and Chargers trending up, it could get stretched out a bit longer than expected.
The ‘72 Dolphins should pop a bonus bottle of champagne tonight for coach Shula
If the portal and NIL go as everyone expects, Belichick is primed for a fast start. He gets to face 5 of this season’s bottom 7 ACC teams, missing SMU, Miami, Georgia Tech and Louisville.
Amazingly, by signing Bill Belichick, North Carolina actually got younger at head coach. (Mack Brown is 73, BB is 72).
Mike Dunleavy’s expression is priceless.
A read well worth your time, especially if you’re a hockey fan. On top of everything, Bruce is a wonderful guy who I’ve known for decades.

It was a pleasure to conceptualize & write all 40 episodes of this podcast. Sadly this is the final route. Thanks to Wondery, ThreeFourTwo & Blue Duck for providing the chance, to Trey Wingo & Kevin Frazier for bringing it to life and to all of our listeners.
