In May 2021, openMenu's original author told me on Discord he's "got something [I] might like."
If you had told me then that five years later this would turn into one of my biggest passion projects, I probably wouldn't have believed you.
Yet, here we are! Crazy to look back on.

Very sad...
I donated to Myrient a while back and would consider a pretty generous donation again if it were part of a targeted effort. I think many would feel the same.
I can only assume that such has been suggested and Alexey has said it wouldn't change his decision.

Didn't realize that one was broken too. You can try v1.5 to see!
But several of us have spent countless hours trying to get KallistiOS MAPLE code to play nicely with RF controllers, and frankly we're done π

(2/3) All the documentation you need for this new feature is in the GitHub readme, but I've also taken the time to record a video tutorial.

(1/3) v1.5 of the openMenu Virtual Folder Bundle is here, packing all sorts of new features and fixes! The most exciting one is Serial VMU, enabling virtual per-game VMUs (up to five slots per game) using nothing but a cheap serial SD adapter!

Haha, thanks dude. At some point updates will slow down, but for now I have some time to dedicate to this well deserved project, and I'm sincerely happy all our friends in the Dreamcast scene can benefit from it.

So much good stuff in v1.5 of the openMenu Virtual Folder Bundle, headed your way soon!
I want to ensure a few things get just a tad more testing, and then I'm ready for public release!

The way packaged applications work, the way users can run them directly without extracting them, thus being in a read-only file system. I am not an expert on the platform by any means, but I'm trying to research it so I can deliver something that actually works.

I can't begin to describe it all here, but I'll be recording a "tour" video soon, especially after v1.5 releases with virtual per-game VMUs *without* requiring a VM2 or VMUPro (all you need is a $15 serial SD adapter).
In the meantime, I wrote thorough documentation here: github.com/DerekPascare...

With my version of openMenu + Card Manager, it's mostly equivalent to drag-and-drop in a file explorer. On top of that, you have more features than MODE or USB-GDROM *and* rock-solid compatibility.
To each their own of course, but that card management pain is a big part of what I'm alleviating! π

After v1.5 of the openMenu Virtual Folder Bundle, Windows and Linux users can use a built-in updater, including options to preserve their settings and assets!
For now, macOS isn't on the table due to some ecosystem limits I'm not comfortable with. This may change in the future.

UPDATE:
Per request (and because it's generally a good idea), I've added multi-slot (or channel) support to this new upcoming Serial VMU feature.
Those who want to have up to five separate virtual VMUs per game can turn the multi-slot feature on like you see in this video.

If you're a user of my openMenu build who is excited for this feature and interested in battle testing it, shoot me a DM and I'll invite you to the Discord. I don't need a ton of testers, really just one or two who may try things that I myself haven't!
Working serial SD adapter required, of course.

Here's the first video capture of the work-in-progress "Serial VMU" feature, which gives openMenu users virtual per-game VMUs using nothing but an inexpensive serial SD card reader (and an SD card, of course).
