Continent-wide mapping shows increasing sensitivity of East Antarctica to meltwater ponding - Nature Climate Change This study provides a continent-wide assessment of surface meltwater area in Antarctica between 2006 and 2021, highlighting recent increases in magnitude and variability in East Antarctica, with indic...

I’m delighted to share that our new paper is now out in @natclimate.nature.com! Our long-term, monthly Antarctic-wide dataset of surface meltwater shows that the East Antarctic Ice Sheet is becoming increasingly prone to surface meltwater ponding.

Huge thanks to @joemallalieu.bsky.social (who masterminded this method) and to the rest of the cam deployment crew (Inc. @alexscoffield.bsky.social, @petetuckett.bsky.social &
@dmrippin.bsky.social) for their in-field help over the summer.

Time-lapse trail cameras… not just for wildlife! πŸ“Έ

Chuffed to share this Tools of the Trade article in @natrevearthenv.bsky.social, highlighting how we can capture glacier calving to better understand rates and drivers of ice loss.

Light reading for half term!

In The emerging importance of ice-marginal lakes across Greenland, @ConnieHarpur and colleagues outline recent advances in our understanding of lakeβˆ’glacier interactions across Greenland during the past, present and future and key priorities.

It’s #WomenInScience Day

I’m so fortunate to have a brilliant network of inspiring women to look up to in polar science and beyond. Gender equality is a work in progress- let’s make sure that science is for everyone.

Climate change in the polar regions of our warming world is threatening to transform many of its features, such as this icy tableau in the Fish Islands off the coast of the Antarctic Peninsula. There is still much to learn about these places before we know better what those changes may be.

A new special issue of Science highlights research on Earth’s frozen placesβ€”from the Arctic to the Antarcticβ€”and how it’s changing due to climate change and the geopolitical challenges this important work faces.
