You know what would really be useful in #Premiere or #Resolve? Having a warning indicator when a clip you pull onto your timeline will overwrite/replace another that's outside the current view.
Here, I made a mock-up.

Screenshot of the pop-up menu when right-clicking in the gallery stills pane. The mouse pointer hovers over "Copy Grade: Copy All Node Layers" which has a tick mark in front and an arrow pointing at it.
Colorist quick tip when working Resolve: To retain any node cache status (auto/on/off) when copying a grade via middle-click:
1) Right click in the gallery pane
2) tick "Copy Grade: Copy All Node Layers"
Glad I finally figured this out! π

Girl Climber (2025) β 8.6 | Documentary, Sport
1h 23m
Lots of thing happening so I almost missed the North American release of Girl Climber which I graded. The low-light shots benefited from NeatVideo 6 and Topaz helped with reducing some highly compressed archival stuff.

As a video production professional I can say that emoji in files are definitely a thing for at least a year and were the cause of countless grueling shifts trying to figure out, why a render would crash π

A rather complex node tree in Resolve. We got Layer mixers, Splitters, Mergers, OFX, key mixers, etc.
The result is worth all this, I swear! π«

Table listing "Running time in Minutes" and "Number of Shots" by year starting from 2010 to 2024. In 2024, I graded 29110 shots, with a total runtime of 1873.2 minutes. In total, i graded 361515 shots with a total runtime of 26247.2 minutes
What a year! In 2024 I graded almost 30k shots. I hope 2025 will be a little quieter π

I should probably post more about #colorgrading since this is my new social home. What hot takes from the color suite would you be interested in? π

Photo taken with a Samsung S23 Ultra. It's a long shot of a bus in front of an illuminated parking lot at night in fog. It was taken with the phone's default camera app.
The same photo but graded "cinematically" with a strong orange/teal look.
Color grading in a nutshell: Making images look nice and giving them a look that emphasizes the story and mood.

Oh no, I made another design for my #colorist colleagues and other folks in #postproduction. Wearing this on a T-shirt is a conversation starter, believe me! π

A node tree showing a junction of a side-tree only used for pulling mattes via qualifiers. Their alpha is then fed into individual nodes where the grading happens. The results are combined in a parallel note at the end.
Todayβs #Colorist Tip: Try to work modular, especially when you can expect changes.
For example, with this node tree I can tweak certain colors completely individually from the look in case the client wants to experiment but their brand colors should remain intact.

Iβm used to looming deadlines, but when you have 1 shift to deliver and the other end starts the transfer of your data late, you know you're in for a ride. Especially when you have to factor in conform, rendering, upload on your side, download+unzip on the client side again, etc.

The turnaround time on this one was wild: To-color delivery of a 60 GB ProRes4444 from Japan; I stared my 4.5 hrs of #colorgrading on an mp4, of which I lost 1 hr trying to online the ProRes; rendering; then 60 gigs to transfer back to Japan for final assemblyπ
