You are correct. I’m not going to throw out a name cause one isn’t coming to me at the moment, but if Trump was just a dumber version of the Reagan playbook, whoever’s next is going to be a dumber version of the Trump playbook.

It wouldn’t be someone currently in politics. It would have to be someone with a preexisting source of fame outside of politics like Trump had.

For whatever reason lots of people don’t put “AI” in the science/tech bucket in their brains, they put it in the religion/mysticism bucket. So all of the usual fear and cautiousness they show towards science/tech doesn’t show up.

The question becomes will the new figure have the same sort of inscrutable juice Trump has (or once had)

The thing is conservatives, being hierarchical by nature, *hate* being in that state more than anything, so they will reconsolidate around a central figure faster than you’d think given how much they all hate one another.

They don’t know what they don’t know, and they don’t know a lot.

The lust people have to argue online is in itself a weird bubble. I don’t wake up hoping to have arguments with people, I wake up with the idea that I’m probably going to talk about sports or movies & say weird shit and sometimes arguments arise but usually from annoying assholes, it’s not a virtue

The insane thing is there are so many people who know this in their own personal and professional lives but believe it when he says it

The only strategy is “do the opposite of whatever the libs want” and then deal with every shifting situation from there

They don’t want to engage with the politics that most of the people here practice, because they simply don’t want to see them implemented. So they will continue to dismiss this place until they can’t.

I’m so tired of seeing people bash Bluesky for being an echo chamber when X is an actual intentionally constructed echo chamber that is demonstrably radicalizing people across the political spectrum who still use it

Powers that be decided that it simply cannot be talked about, because if they talked about it it would lead to questions like “Why is this motherfucker still here making decisions that impact every person on the planet?” that they’d rather not have to answer.

Though I do think Republicans and especially Texas Republicans chafe at the thought of altering anything they would normally do out of fear of a Democrat. “Pick me I’m the safe choice” makes them want to throw up.

There’s an (imo criminally overlooked) Joaquin Phoenix movie called Buffalo Soldiers about American troops stationed in Germany around the fall of the Wall getting into all sorts of trouble that has an apropos quote: “War may be hell, but peace is fucking boring”

If you lie all the time about everything, eventually most of the people who know that they’re lies will end up letting most of them go unchallenged because if they challenged every one they wouldn’t have time to do anything else

It’s crazy how people think simply saying “I don’t know” will cause them to lose respect but going off half-cocked based on absolutely nothing won’t.
