If that the possibility space that people are used to then the switching costs feel artificially high.

Not a particularly “new” thought but Platforms taking over from more generic site structures like forums feeds this imo.
Like back in the day Forum A imploded due to mod drama folks went to Forum B.

Now most people interact with digital spaces via smartphone apps and there’s just fewer of those.
