Back in 2023, I kind of blew the bank, to acquire this hand-coloured panorama of the city, engraved by H W Brewer and published in The Graphic magazine on 12 May 1888, to mark the occasion of The International Exhibition of Science, Art and Industry, in Kelvingrove Park.

Thanks Leigh. Glasgow was the starting point for so many important grocery firms and nice to see that small architectural details still survive to link with their history.
Prestos also a blast from the past!

Such a beautiful shop. Has a very rare surviving circular glass showcase on the corner.
Nice mosaic entrances too if my memory serves me well.
And good ghost signs above.

Great photo. Love the big gasoliers.
Also note the β€˜lifting windows’ like sash windows which open allowing the shop to be more like a market stall. Common in butchers and fishmongers until 1930s.

Britney is still probably the hardest rescue I've ever had to do.

To see her back with us and to have brought Sam along to work with us is still hard to believe.

May have had a little tear myself watching this if I am honest!

The craziest dog rescue we've ever done. His life hangs in balance as we chase through the jungle YouTube video by Happy Doggo

After 4 years I genuinely think this is the hardest but best rescue we have ever done.

You'll see why I think the people I work with are heroes in this. A truly remarkable story. Grab a coffee or a beer and watch it. Trust me you won't regret it

'Kirkwall Fair.' (1888) Although Arthur Melville was not regarded as one of the Glasgow Boys, he was seen by them to be a kindred spirit. A year after painting this work on Orkney, he left Edinburgh and settled in London, although he often returned to Scotland to paint.

It is good to see town centres are still on the agenda but I feel we have been having these conversations for such a long time! A real shift is required but as you say, such good work going on across the country but it’s a tough gig for these organisations trying make positive changes.
