... But can of course be also something different. This image below shows the context with the 50cm wheel diameter for scale and the camera on the lower right of the robotic arm pointing to the rock. More images, and better in HDR in a browser outside of X: areo.info/mars20/ecams...
As readers have pointed out, whether the sol 1792 boulder is really granite, isn't sure yet. To add into the discussion I'll throw in this rock from sol 1644 which shows many large crystals and large granular structure, usually a sign of felsic intrusive rocks, granite is one classification of...
The free areoHDR app is now globally released on the normal Android Google app store: play.google.com/store/apps/d... For iPhone it's already available since a year: apps.apple.com/app/areohdr/...
The sky on Mars today day 1797 by portrait-style Watson Cam on the robotic arm and wide angle landscape Navcam pair on the rover's "head" with the Supercam telescope with the rock-blasting laser. More images on areo.info/mars20 and also with the areoHDR app on Android and iPhone, all in HDR.
That's important history as synthetic ultramarine was the first patent in Germany. The factory was later in 1906 purchased by Carl Leverkus: de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ultrama... and de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Julius_...
Already in 2024 the 160 year old ultramarine blue pigment factory of Julius Curtius in Duisburg was rediscovered. Surprisingly, the ruins were shining blue after that many years in the wet soil: www.gebag.de/die-gebag/ma...
Thanks for sharing! Since this week the same images can be viewed also on Android phones with the free areoHDR app, the same app as is already available since a year for iPhone.
Technical app details: I used skip.dev to bring the original iPhone app with only minor code changes to Android. With their Skip-Lite variant, it just-in-time transpiles Swift and SwiftUI code to Kotlin running on the Android Java virtual machine. They also have Skip-Fuse for creating native code.
The link should already work in 8 countries without registration I see now. If you don't have access, let me know in which country so I can add it to the test group.
To get access to the app store link, send me your gmail address either here as private message or to web@areo.info by email: play.google.com/store/apps/d... For iPhone it is already available since more than a year.
My areoHDR app with daily images from Perseverance Mars Rover is now available on Google Play as early testing release in 8 countries for everyone who likes to try it out.

Bsky declared my reply as adult content, but there's only Botticelli's Venus painting shown and the Venus Tail. Not sure which one is the concern.

As a reader pointed out, on next week's LPSC 2026 conference, research is presented about the discovery of granite outside of Jezero Crater: Discovery of Ancient Granitic "Components Outside Jezero Crater, Mars [#1322] The first in situ discovery of Martian granite":
www.hou.usra.edu/meetings/lps...
Looks like the first granite finding on Mars, yesterday Perseverance day 1792. Previously the only silica rich rock were white quartz pieces. More images on areo.info/mars20/ecams... and with the areoHDR iPhone app in HDR. To access the beta release for Android, send me a message: web@areo.info
My Mars Images app areoHDR is starting to become available for Android! But I need users to try the first release before Google can make the listing on the store public. To access the first release please send my your email address as private message or to web@areo.info to get the app store link.
... Instead, the architect has chosen lead sheets. During the Golden Gate Bridge construction in 1933, parts of the wall were apparently relocated by 20 meters. During that reassembly, the technology to stack them precisely with lead sheets was already lost. Video: youtube.com/watch?v=jIQx...
Below the Golden Gate Bridge, an ancient-style mortar-free megalithic wall exists, stacked from huge granite blocks. No mortar was used originally during the presumably 1869 construction and they were anchored polygonally to stay in place and not move a mm during the many Earthquakes...
Photo from "A Strong-Magnetic Field Region in the Far Outer Solar Nebula Recorded by Bennu Samples" [#1515]
Another one: "Evidence of a Solar Nebula Magnetic Field in Samples Returned from Bennu" [#1453] both abstracts on www.hou.usra.edu/meetings/lps...
The academic explanation is an origin from an unknown outer solar system nebula. But I'd say it's just electric current having produced the field when the asteroid was as active as a comet in the past. π· www.hou.usra.edu/meetings/lps... and science.nasa.gov/solar-system...
Asteroid Bennu samples show magnetic field strength remains as high as rocks on Earth: Up to 37 micro Tesla was measured in the samples, some even higher, which matches the range of Earth's magnetic field near the surface of 25 - 65 micro Tesla...

That field-aligned current (or electron or ion beam) is part of the comet models of Prof. Devan Asoka Mendis in his 1988 paper "A postencounter view of comets" and earlier already in Prof. James McCanney's "Dynamics of a Small Comet" published in 1981 when he was teaching at Cornell University...
Prof. Avi Loeb team's finding of 3I/ATLAS' nucleus rotation and especially its rotation axis parallel alignment with the sun direction is a major discovery! One explanation for that alignment would be in my interpretation the (magnetic) field-aligned current at the comet in the anti-sun line...
That Viking Orbiter 1 globe photo is indeed in great colors and even shows more details at the limb than man modern images. But for the surface colors my areo.info/mars20 I still prefer.

That's the same rock as in the color images below. With the analysis it may find out which type of purple glass it is: bsky.app/profile/areo...
Gamma rays could do it as those are known to change the color of glass or quartz to purple if impurities of manganese exist. Also UV light over many years. A common purple natural mineral is Amethyst, if next to its FeO4 it also needs Mn for the color I don't know. libanswers.cmog.org/faq/144135
