An image of a FedEx trucked parked across a sidewalk with two kids on bikes rolling along in front of it
Every time I hit FedEx's website I'm amused by the FedEx truck blocking the sidewalk in this otherwise lovely image.

The driver's prior was a year ago for Disorderly Conduct and I'd be real interested to know what that was about.
Their preliminary hearing for this one is Wednesday the 9th.
Absolutely amazing.
An image of a sidewalk completely blocked by a sign indicating a detour for pedestrians down that sidewalk.
If this doesn't just sum up how construction treats pedestrians I'm not sure what does. Also note the bike symbol scrubbed off that sign, while this is in fact also the bike detour.
That's a great perspective!
I think it's the outgrowth of the 1950s "cars only" infrastructure decision. Not cars first, not cars preferred, but the idea that everyone was going to drive from garage to garage in their private car.
Because if you design for *that* you have to control those cars with explicit signals.
