Sometimes we bury the past not because it's healed, but because today already asks too much of us. Adania Shibli captures something profound about collective memory and survival in her book "Minor Detail".

Just posted a quote from "The Queue" today - excellent. I'd also highly recommend Elif Shafak's "There Are Rivers In the Sky." I could not put it down.
Loved 1984? Then you need The Queue by Basma Abdel Aziz on your TBRβ #WomenInTranslation month! This Egyptian novel, written in the aftermath of the Arab Spring, captures how dystopian control works through making people complicit in their own confinement. The 'same lethargy' hits hard. #BookSky
the British Mandate of Palestine, specifically Jerusalem, through the 1920s to WWII period. The story shows what happens to the community as the notion of nationalism and statehood enters the region. Very interesting read! If you want to hear about the beauty of her prose, give my video a listen. :)
Hi, Allen! Nice to meet you. "City of Many Days" is a beautiful story from an incredible Israeli author with a very storied past. (Look up her story when you have some time - I think you'd find her very interesting!) The story alone is worth reading. It follows a pluralistic community in the
Thank you! It's a beautiful book with an incredible story line. :)
Hahahaha just posted one for you! Let me know if you like it! π
This book made me fall in love with Jerusalem. One of the best books Iβve ever read - βCity of Many Daysβ. Hereβs why you should add it to your TBR list:

What are you reading for August's Women in Translation? (Part One) #BookSky #literature
Found a gem in a local bookstore β βA Very Old Man Storiesβ by Italo Svevo. Itβs a series of scenes and sketches that he was writing for his follow up to Zenoβs Conscience before he died. Svevoβs work was largely ignored until his English tutor, James Joyce, sent his writing to two critics. #Booksky
Beautiful - definitely makes me want to pick this book up and read the summary!
Beautiful job! That's one book you DON'T need. π
Coming soon: diving into Milan Kundera's The Unbearable Lightness of Beingβa masterpiece that interrogates love, freedom, and the weight of our choices. This isn't just a story; it's a meditation on what it means to exist.
Full review soon.

If you like weird and kind of dark books, have you tried "The Unbearable Lightness of Being" yet by Czech-author Milan Kundera? It lives rent-free in my head right now. π
Cervantes: For neither good nor evil can last forever....Evil has lasted a long time. Good must be close at hand.
God willing.
Also, technically Hemingway was a WWI war correspondent but he did get a Bronze Star awarded to him for his service so I'm including it. (It was my first Hemingway book that I read so it has a special place in my heart.)
From the front lines to the page - these veterans' stories are a must-read. Standouts include the classics, Vasily Grossman's "Life and Fate" and "Matterhorn" by Karl Marlantes.
What is your favorite war novel and did I leave off your favorite? Let me know below!

Who else has been waiting to hear Martin Sheen narrate "Ghosts of Hiroshima"?!

It is fantastic, isn't it? When you're done with it, I've heard they made a movie about it (can't get my husband to watch any movies that aren't action or involve Will Ferrell π) - will you let me know if you think it even comes close to the book?
