In 2021, the EC made a historic commitment to ban cages for farmed animals by the end of 2023. This promise remains unfulfilled to this day. We're outside the court today, demanding justice for the 300 M animals still suffering in cages across Europe and the 1.4 M citizens who signed the ECI.
Today, a landmark legal hearing for the #EndtheCageAge case officially began at the Court of Justice of the EU in Luxembourg. For the first time ever, the European Commission is being held legally accountable for failing to act on a European Citizens' Initiative (ECI).
Right now, our work in the UK is intensifying. We’re planning to grow the team and dedicate more resources to fighting one of the most cruel practices in animal farming – the breeding of fast-growing chickens.
Anima International is active in 6 countries: Denmark, Poland, Norway, France, Bulgaria and the UK. Each one of our groups is part of a global organization fighting animal suffering. We prioritize the most pressing issues and focus our efforts where we think we can help animals the most.
Since 2018, we’ve been working in the UK to end animal suffering. Our mission has not changed – we’re fighting not just for animals in cages, but animals everywhere. The new name and identity will better reflect how and why we do what we do.
Our team in the UK – formerly known as Open Cages – has changed its name to Anima.

Will the EU finally end the suffering of animals farmed for fur?

The use of fast-growing chicken breeds causes immense suffering. It's one of the most urgent problems we're working to eliminate. For the past 6 years, we've been campaigning in Norway to make the industry end this practice.

🎉 Norway’s meat industry announced a plan to phase out fast-growing chicken breeds by the end of 2027. Norway will become the world's first country to stop raising fast-growing chickens.
