Maybe many of people don't know the full story, but even from an outsider's view looking in, what you're doing is incredibly inspiring. Even as someone that's been close to you for a long time, I can't help but feel a mixture of pride for you, awe, and a smattering of "I want that good stuff too".
Watching someone pull themself up from that abyss is a deeply admirable thing, and I think it's okay to feel envious and want that for yourself, too. It doesn't mean we wish it any less for you. We're all proud to see the woman you've become, the confidence you've gained, the strides you're taking.
I don't think it's necessarily being parasocial. You have to remember that it's not just you that's lived this kind of life. Many of us are stuck in shitty states, with laws that actively work against us. Families that hate us or don't accept us. Alone, hurting, depressed.
