Great episode. Regarding Xbox, I do think MS are dealing with an identity crisis. I’ve had every Xbox and I’ve no need to get the next (based on current software direction). Sega used to be in all the discussions when they made hardware, they are now a legacy brand. That same risk is there for Xbox.

This is not a fully formed thought but putting it out there - when talking about episodic content, @christianspicer.bsky.social mentioned no examples (yet) of having episodic content where game mechanics play a factor. Is there an argument that Fortnite has been doing this for years?
SSX, SSX Tricky, and SSX 3 were all absolutely sensational games in their unique ways. Boarding down and entire mountain in SSX 3 was such a mind blowing experience. I’d love a new version with updated graphics but the same amazing gameplay and controls.
On the topic of hardware costs, my daughters had new gaming rigs for Christmas, which they convinced me to buy and build in September, thank goodness we did. The Corsair 32gb memory was £110 at the end of Sept, over Christmas it was £470! Simply outrageous.

I recall watching this episode when it first aired in the UK, a truly remarkable recital by the incredible Dame Judi Dench. The contrast is stark compared to the average grasp of language these days. It has been distilled down to unimaginative and lazy soundbites.

@dlchypetrain.bsky.social - I’m a default inverter and I struggle badly without it. It is based on flight sims where you pull back to take off, push forward to descend and land. 100% agree with Christian with the stick on the back of your head example, pulling down would tilt your head up.

Completely agree! Today I recorded my session for an upcoming tech summit that was titled “Inside Out: Understanding yourself in a world of Artificial Intelligence.” - it was a self-reflective session for the audience to learn about emotional intelligence. And yes, Inside Out characters were used.
It’s worth adding that having just finished a beautiful run around the Winchester countryside, laughing whilst running makes it way more challenging. DLC bringing you neuroplasticity in so many ways.

Less of a mechanic, more of a gameplay design … but it’s bright colourful ledges to indicate your path. On the one hand I totally understand why it needs to be this way, on the other it distracts from the immersion and exploration.

Back in the UK after a business trip to the US & one social media observation jumped out at me - my Instagram feed was totally different to back home. This week it was dominated by US conspiracy theory pages, I would guess 1 in 3 reels. It was alarming when you consider the ramifications.
