Thank you to @mariahaskins.com for mentioning "It Grows Back" in this review. I'm happy to have written "one of the most unsettling horror stories I read in 2025."
Thank you to @mariahaskins.com for the kind words about βIt Grows Backβ in this review!
My short horror story βIt Grows Backβ featured on the Locus Recommended Reading List, and Iβm incredibly honored
This is why for all of the dozens of stories Iβve started but not finished, I make myself write one ending that I never lead up to. I never know who the characters are or whatβs happening, but itβs made me good at endings. Still terrible at middles, though
Good morning. They're going to sell you the lie of provocateurs.

Iβm really honored to be included, thank you!
I put together a post about some of my favorite short fiction of 2025.

Contract's signed! I'm excited to share that I'll have a new story coming out soon in @castofwonders.org. It'll be my second-ever published story (at "third-ever" and onwards this probably stops being a significant distinction). It's also a spooky one, on account of the oncoming season
Thatβs some nice scum tbh

Just listened to this great story by @thomasha.bsky.social. I love a good stories-within-a-story story any day, and this one really uses that structure to great thematic effect. Would recommend (and am)
In the Jonas Brothersβ hit single βYear 3000,β which takes place in the year 3,000, we learn that Nick Jonasβs βgreat, great, great granddaughter is doing fine.β This means that sheβs been alive for centuries longer than a normal human lifespan. I think sheβs no longer fully human. Somethingβs wrong
I canβt help but notice that βwhiteβ and βmaleβ are inexplicably missing from this list, even though their counterparts are included
Thanks to Ephiny for the recommendation! I also loved the descriptions/selling points of all the stories in this video, and now my to-read list is a bit longer:)
Thank you!
Really happy that my debut novelette βThe Best Version of Yourselfβ (@clarkesworldmagazine.com) made the Locus 2024 Recommended Reading List, alongside many other stories that I love:) locusmag.com/2025/02/2024...
Maybe Iβve been too absorbed lately in the weeds of think-pieces and comments dismissing out-of-hand the idea that computer systems could in principle have anything close to mental states, but this preprint feels like a breath of fresh air. Iβd recommend it to anyone interested in this sort of thing
This behavior (and those like it in animals) is actually the subject of one of my favorite essays of all time: thebaffler.com/salvos/whats...
Another reminder to consider βThe Best Version of Yourselfβ for this poll :)
Thatβs a very cool cover
This rule is great for me, because I take about a year to write a short story. I hereby embrace this
If any one of my followers liked "The Best Version of Yourself" enough to nominate it for this poll, I would appreciate it a lot. Also there's many other good stories to vote for, but I'm keeping my ballot a secret so as to not influence anyone beyond that
This week on my blog, I explore ten of the short stories that I loved this year.

Really happy and honored to make this list! Thanks:) I'll have to check out the other recs, too
Welcome to my first Official Eligibility Post:
I have one awards-eligible story this year (and also ever). I would be honored if you were to consider βThe Best Version of Yourselfβ published in @clarkesworld for your ballots. It is a nice story full of brain

Everyone hates wet socks, but if you step a preexisting wet foot onto a cloth, it doesnβt feel as bad β even though itβs the same sensation. The real loss comes because the sock gives an expectation of safety, which is then shattered.
In this essay, I will
Really happy and honored to seeβThe Best Version of Yourselfβ on this list
