If we didnβt love our country and harbor hope for its highest ideals, days like today wouldnβt hurt so bad.
If you worked for 18F and got fired, Group together to start a consulting company.
Itβs just a matter of time before DOGE needs you to fix the mess they inevitably create.
They will have to hire your company as a contractor to fix it. But on your terms.

I think peopleβs minds short-circuit so badly when they see βethnicβ names that they forget to cite these scholars. (Absolutely, 100% not talking about me, obviously.)

We focus a lot on how tough the summers can be for facilities without ACβ¦ but prisons and jails arenβt exactly replete with blankets and other ways to stay warm. Cold spells like this can be tough to navigate, especially in states that arenβt used to them.

Itβs great that these incarcerated workers earn market wages. Itβs horrible that news stories like this one treat βpay-to-stayβ fees as normal, if not desirable.
βLike inmates in work-release programs β¦ 10 percent of remote workersβ wages go to the state to offset the cost of room and board.β
As we mourn and celebrate the exemplary life of Jimmy Carter, I thought back to Matthew Braswellβs essay (and Kevin Mattsonβs book) describing the presidentβs discussions with sociologist Robert Bellah and historian Christopher Lasch. RIP. onthe5thfloor.wordpress.com/2013/10/25/s...

Figure showing number of school shootings per year since 2008
Just 2 days after the 12th anniversary of Sandy Hook, the US has its 83rd school shooting of the year, surpassing last year's record for the most school shootings.
This breaks my heart. And my heart will keep on breaking b/c the US won't change anything. www.cnn.com/us/live-news...

My parents were children during WW2. Their memories of war have always been terrifying to me. We keep doing this to kids in different parts of the world.

I'll join PBS Newshour tonight to talk about the historic drop in drug overdose deaths, down roughly 17 percent in a single year.
