I’m teaching an online 7.5-week course on AfAm history since 1865. I’ve dedicated two weeks to the Civil Rights/Black Power Movements. Needless to say, I’m struggling. Since I can’t teach ALL the things, what, in your opinion, is non-negotiable?
It’s only supposed to be 100 degrees today and I feel like skipping! #AZSummer
I done finished it. Over 10 years of research, 7 years of writing, and a whole bunch of tomfoolery in between. 😊
Ooof, too real it hurts! 🤣
And she’s often portrayed as a tired elderly woman! 😳🙄
I read through my journal from that time and wow! I forgot what a little political activist I was. Very much against both invasions. 😂
He’s either blocking or ignoring historians who call him out.
American belonging is often not an option for us. Nor have we always wanted it to be.
Canciónes de la resistencia.
Omg! I literally wrote about this case recently for my book to talk about state violence against Mexicans in the late 1970s! I DIDN'T KNOW YOUR ARTICLE CAME OUT! Reading and citing now...😃
Yes indeedio. I'm also a scholar of the Brown freedom struggle, having spent years reading (unlike KK) and researching this subject. Mendoza's upcoming book is 🔥
Kevin Kruse blocked me. He doesn't like it when other historians present him with evidence.
52 years apart. Same flag. Same fight. @kevinmkruse.bsky.social says it’s wrong. You know what’s actually wrong? State violence against Latinx communities. Criticize the racists—not those acting in resistance.
Two photos.
1973: Mexican Americans protest after Dallas police killed a 12-year-old boy.
2025: Protesting the crimmigration system that targets Latinx communities.
You definitely need to be yelled at. Read some books on the racial construction of Mexicans/Mexican Americans in the US and then report back. If you still don't get it, there's no helping you. You have the information right in front of you, and as a historian, you should know and do better.
Just finished outlining the conclusion for my book. It only took ten years of research and writing for me to figure it out. 😆🤦🏽♀️
I've been reading, writing, and revising so much that I tried to start my car with my house key and then kept spelling "theries" instead of "theories"-- omg what is my brain? It tired.
I'm trying to write my book, but my 8-year-old keeps interrupting to ask ridiculously important questions, like, "Who would win in a battle between an eagle and a velociraptor?" and "What color does purple and orange make?"
It's only day one of spring break. 🫠
Stop. Sending. Me. Emails. Unless it’s to give me a million dollars. Kthx.
Oh wow! Wishing you all the best! So sad we never got a chance to meet in person.
It's taken now seven years and eleventy billion drafts to finally figure out my SNCC and NWRO chapter. The research I'm most excited about is always the hardest for me to write.
Does adulthood mean spending over a grand for a trip home that I didn’t even enjoy? Happy holidays or whatever.
Santa Rafa agrees. More dogs.
Thanks! Luckily I was not involved in the screaming, just a traumatized witness to it.
Have I been christened with my first faculty “screaming match” meeting? Yes. Did I also spend two hours writing an email about it? Sigh, yes. 🥴
Double the Katherines, double the fun!
And me! I live there!
