SGS Minute Book 5, folio 21v (4 August 1748). It features a hand drawn and painted image of a locust that was likely by Anne Alethea Johnson, daughter of SGS founder Maurice Johnson II. She regularly made drawings to accompany minutes. Swarms of locusts had appeared in and around Spalding in the summer of 1748. SGS members studied them and gathered reports on their effects on crops and livestock. This drawing was made when a specimen was examined at a meeting.

Today is #WorldBookDay. Here at SGS, we hold thousands of printed books, periodicals, and manuscripts from the 13th century onwards. Among the most important holdings are the records of the Society itself. This picture shows the SGS Minute Book 5, folio 21v (4 August 1748) with a hand drawn locust.

The crack in the lecture room wall before and after repairs.

If you've travelled through Broad Street recently, you will have seen that our MEND project builders have started work on the museum. Removing plaster from the walls has revealed many faults and cracks, but the construction team are carefully stitching the walls back together. #SpaldingHeritage

Our collections sometimes hide little surprises! We were recently unframing some of our textile collection and discovered a few pieces had been mounted on unusual materials - including a sampler and a picture of a lady and a horse. #Conservation #SpaldingGentlemensSociety #MuseumFinds
