Organisms that are buried alive for many thousands of years without enough energy to grow could be called "aeonophiles", so we can talk about them more easily. @drewsteen.bsky.social tinyurl.com/4tzecaxn

Instruments aboard NASAβs Curiosity rover found multiple long-chain alkanes on Mars. While the compounds could have been formed through abiotic processes, their detection suggests that true biosignatures could be preserved on the red planet. In PNAS: www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/...
Organics from ancient life on Mars? It can't be ruled out! It is time to bring home samples from Mars and analyze them using the best lab instruments to know for sure. science.nasa.gov/missions/mar...

Me too, we were told yesterday by the university that GRFP has not been affected yet. Not sure if that has changed today though π€·π»ββοΈ

The nebula looks more like a tangled web or perhaps two angry crabs engaged in combat. Tendrils of bright yellow-green whip around the center of the image, changing to deeper oranges as you traverse outward. A faint glow of blue and white covers most of the nebula. Several blue stars glow around the edges of the image.
Wake up nerds, new JWST image just dropped! ππ§ͺ
The Crab Nebula π¦, a supernova remnant, captured in stunning near and mid-infrared light. Dust is shown in light yellow & green. Sulfur dominates in reds & oranges. Iron is in blue.
