The National Press Photographers Foundation (NPPF), a 501(C) (3) nonprofit, stands in full support of the National Press Photographers Association (NPPA) and its mission to advocate for visual journalists, protect press freedom, and promote the highest standards in photojournalism. While the NPPF and the NPPA are two separate organizations, we share a deep commitment to the profession of visual journalism.
We are acutely aware of the challenges currently facing the NPPA, and we acknowledge the serious impact that the recent staff terminations and organizational crisis will have on the association and its members. In a time of uncertainty, the NPPF reaffirms the vital role that NPPA plays within our community of visual journalism—providing legal advocacy, education, professional development, competitions, and fostering community through its publications and workshops. The NPPA has long been the place for the community of photojournalists in the U.S., and it must remain so. The challenges ahead are undeniable, but not insurmountable. We know that as NPPA leadership charts a course forward, they can restore stability, rebuild trust, and draw strength from the incredible talent, leadership and energy within their membership.
As our foundation is committed to supporting the advancement of visual journalism, know that NPPF will continue our core work of funding scholarships, awards, and educational opportunities. Additionally, we are prepared to explore ways we can support and collaborate with NPPA and its community.
We ask all who care about the future of visual journalism to stand with NPPA at this critical time. This is a moment not only to reaffirm our shared values but also to reimagine and renew the structures that support our profession.
We deeply believe in the importance of the NPPA. And we believe in the enduring power of community, especially in the face of adversity. History has shown that it is community that ultimately gets us through in the end.
