Ultimately, Freemanβs column isnβt pitiful because it rubs salt in the woundβitβs pitiful because it lays bare the true aim of the anti-trans movement. This was never about policy or bathrooms or youth sports. Itβs about a cohort of people who feel culture shifting beneath their feet, who were raised in a world where casual cruelty toward transgender people was normalized, and who now find themselves resentful that society has moved on. Rather than reflect or grow, they double down, demanding that their revulsion be seen as virtueβthat their discomfort be not only accepted but celebrated. Freemanβs yearning for social validation, cloaked in the language of righteous indignation, reveals the movementβs hollow core. The title of her piece says it all: this isnβt about the law, itβs about the isolation that comes from being wrong. And no court decisionβno matter how cruelβwill win back the friendships lost to hate, or rescue those who chose the wrong side of history from the consequences of that choice.
From my latest piece.
The true motivating energy behind the anti-trans activists of today.
The urge to follow gimmick accounts vs. curating a feed of real, meaningful human thoughts
But yeah, idk how to solve this issue - we will live to see the 8th Star Wars reboot, Halo 12, etc.
Hopefully, with accessible (non gen-ai) tools, more people will be able to create spiritual successors and iterate on the ideas they love. Even if that stuff is hard to find
as always - follow the *people* who make things you love.
if an author (or critic you trust) cites other media is related or possible inspirations, actually look into it!!

Not to mention sports betting (which has always been deeply integrated), exploitation of college (and high school!) athletes, etc.
athletes become marketable assets, which leads to them becoming celebrities. And yeah, platforming mega-rich, concussed ppl who haven't had a regular job is dumb
I feel like its less "organized sports bad", and more:
commercialization creates horrible perverse incentives, with a bunch of cascading negative consequences.
joining a local community softball league, great.
creating an entire industry based on glorifying a very small pool of athletes sucks

Two panel comic. Dog dentist and dog patient. 1: Patient sitting in chair with a tennis ball in his mouth. Dentist: "I can't work on your teeth with that ball in your mouth." Patient: "Fine" 2: Dentist running away with tennis ball in his mouth. Patient with his arms up in the air. Patient: "I knew it!"
