A great photographer (incidentally, director of the game-changing 1971 Blaxploitation film SHAFT as well); if I were in London I would visit this expo for sure.

theyre turning this woman into an advice animal meme for every lesbian & trans woman who knows about yuri and software/hardware online and it's devastating. the amount of jokes about emulation
my first roger ebert byline! talking about the images of women produced by Survivor and how they've changed over the last quarter-century
Was such a delight to edit this piece, and really glad Esther could join us at Ebert for Women Writers' Week.
Omw to sit with a friend for his top surgery consult - its a big, hard step for him but I'm sooo proud to see him get to finally have the appt he set a year and a half ago! 🏳️⚧️
Lyle Conway sculpting Aughra from The Dark Crystal
RIP Lyle Conway
The sculptor of Audrey II in Little Shop of Horrors,
Aughra, Skeksis, and Urskeks from The Dark Crystal,
Jack Pumpkinhead, Gump, and Billina and Return to Oz,
The monsters from Where the Wild Things Are and the remake of The Blob
Our Congressmen have the brains and scruples of mice
I know this is a silly complaint but I really wish streaming services would allow you to choose if you want to watch their ugly remasters or just the original shows with their original effects, like I want that 1960s beauty and ingenuity when I’m watching Star Trek TOS, not cheap CG.

Still passing this around, as Im still struggling to make ends meet, although stability is starting to show and light is starting to appear at the end of the tunnel in no small part due to the friends and strangers help that has buoyed me along to this point. 🙏🏿

The Greatest Films of All Time (According to Trans People)!
I polled more than 40 transgender and non-binary filmmakers, film critics, and cinephiles to find out which films trans folks connected to most. Check it out below!
Huge shout out to Mattie for putting this together. Genuinely fascinating to see what ten films ended up topping the list, but I mostly adore the sheer variety of picks in the individual lists.
"It's an inoffensive, disposable trifle more focused on self/star power than the genre that shares its title,” writes @clintworthing.bsky.social about K-POPS!
I think it's very sweet that Anderson .Paak made a cute little movie about reconnecting with his son through K-pop. I just wish the resulting product, K-POPS!, felt a little less shaggy and disposable.

honestly if you’re still writing for the new york times, please don’t ever pretend you’re an ally again. too many of y’all are comfortable taking paychecks from people who are actively courting transphobes and directly putting trans lives at risk.
I can't get over this number: in 2007, there were 360,000 newspaper jobs. Now, there are 80,000. "My local paper sucked!" Sure. What sucks even more? The void. "I get all my news from the Guardian!" No, the Guardian doesn't report on your town council, your school board, local cops.
Read the 4/4 star review from @clintworthing.bsky.social, who called it "one of the scariest movies of the year.”
Hate to say it, but all the batshit shine of Hulu's PARADISE is gone in Season 2, replaced with split focuses, wasteful A-lister guest roles, and an ongoing sense that no one knows where this particular train is going.
For @ebertvoices.bsky.social: www.rogerebert.com/streaming/pa...
i would make the argument that much of the best reality television is no less carefully thought out than any given piece of scripted television, sometimes serving as better humanist studies than fiction, and that the capability of the production/editorial teams is what makes many of them sing.
Let's goooo
with everyone talking about scrubs i just thought "i should write about the bill lawrence's true masterpiece" only to remember i actually did do that two years ago

I'm so pleased to return to my old stomping grounds at @thespool.bsky.social for an interview with BY DESIGN director Amanda Kramer and co-star Robin Tunney to talk about Hollywood, desire, and finding the humanity in women's (and men's) deeply human anxieties.

Robert DuVall was unbelievable, especially in his era. He seemed modest in comparison to his contemporaries like Pacino or De Niro or Hoffman, but unlike them you could plug him into most roles like a character actor, and trust him with the heavy stuff too.
