im very glad renpy exists, but for some reason a lot of its design decisions & philosophy seem very opposed to how most japanese vns work. the one i cant stand is having no log/history shortcut (& then encouraging developers to not rebind shortcuts, because players are used 2 the renpy way)

I keep imagining this and it's like the most beautiful thing in the world

theres no contradiction here if u see making art as an altruistic, selfless act, which i think it obviously is (but ppl usually hate artists too much 2 admit this)

i understand & relate. i think how difficult (& often frowned upon) it is to talk about these things makes it worse, but doing so can help in slow, unpredictable ways, and let others know theyre not alone. the thought patterns seem 2 go in circles, but i think its best 2 see it as more of a helix

(& its usually the white middle class ppl who just assume, without evidence, that they were born without "talent" & that i must be classically trained & have 5 degrees or something)

personally, i just try 2 achieve as much as i can within my means. privilege cascades infinitely up & down, but if i can convince a few ppl that some kind of art or another is more within their realm of possibility than they tjought then i think thats a success

most art comes from people who fall outside that description, the problem is that people who do fit the description love pretending it doesnt exist. producing & sharing art is easily 100x more accessible than it was 2 decades ago, but the structural problem around attention & promotion hasnt changed

theres a broader topic here that cant rly be summed up in a few posts but "i'm only capable of doing this because i am a middle class white person living in the imperial core" is a pretty wild exaggeration

"autism" seems 2 be purely a self-acceptance term 4 many, which im not necessarily opposed to. but ppl need 2 realize that in our hyper-individualist world, the acceptance of not just yourself, but every1 around u, can quite literally be life-or-death for us

its quite terrifying how often i see ppl who regularly joke about autism instantly turn on some1 the split second they display the slightest inability 2 handle everyday social conventions
