Fifty is generous!

Photonics researcher, particularly nanofab and optical measurement system design, for visible, UV and THz metamaterials, biomimetic nanostructures and strong coupling in photonics. I also like lots of sports and get annoyed by politicians...
Fifty is generous!
Pour two glasses of wine, one is to drink from, one is so you don't accidentally run out of wine before you add a glass to the recipe...
I reckon you're making two minor mistakes (feel free to tell me to shut up).
1) i think it'll taste better if you stick the wine in before the toms, cooks off the booze a bit and gives a smoother flavour.
2) drink only some of the wine?!?!
Snapspine glacier?
Well, if you're going as far as Glasgow, you'll probably dry out on the train at least.
Just in time to get soaked again at the other end!
There's so much amazing information in this figure - Sun, Moon, clouds - these keograms make for some excellent #dataviz
If you're on mobile, I suggest using the mobile site. Just an "m." in front of the URL, "https://m.xkcd.com/". It's a lot easier than the press and hold thing.
Well, that solved it instantly!
A USPS mailbox in New York City
USPS quietly changed its postmark rules β mail is no longer dated when you drop it off. The βofficialβ date is when it hits automated sorting β sometimes days later
Which could have major implications for mail in voting β itβs a clever way to disenfranchise voters thatβs going largely overlooked
Snapshot of this particular comic showing the extra text, here Vertebrae Georg
Oh hang on, you're not getting the extra text here, which i can see by pressing and holding on the image (was a right click on a computer last I did it)
Here the extra message was Vertebrae Georg;
Ooh, OK, how did you get that? Which software? Significantly more than I get; maybe it's just my phone!
Screenshot of the alt screen you get when pressing and holding on an xkcd cartoon. You used to be able to extend the text to full length by tapping on it, that no longer works, at least on chrome on android (or maybe, at least on my phone!).
Hey @xkcd.com don't know if you already know this; you can no longer read the alt text on chrome on android (maybe elsewhere!) if it's longer than a few words.
You used to be able to tap on the text and it would be fully readable, but that no longer works.
Just FYI. A v very happy new year!
I have a friend who used to have a pass for the Houses of Parliament and offered to take us in one evening for a drink and a look round. We missed out on seeing the Chambers cos it was the night of the gay marriage debate, but we did instead see a fox brazenly trotting around the place.
Yeah I enjoyed that. The more important ones fell asleep, in size order, and woke up at exactly the wrong moment for the larger one to watch it again, but I thought it was fun.
And, no orangutans!
It's queued for tonight, as long as the 3wk old plays ball with my other half and her/their nap cycle, glad to hear it's fun!
πΆSo here it is, fucking Christmas, and I'm sat here making memes.
Look to the future now,
January's much further than it seems...πΆ
I don't really post anymore, but I would like to carry on writing books at some point in the future.
Hate to be annoying, but any chance you could retweet so old twitter followers can find me if they want to? Going to delete my twitter, or at least abandon it on lock and let it die a slow death.
And a really short timer to try to work out which it is before it does one or the other by default
Tell me you don't live in the UK without telling me...
BRAND NEW π How Do You Like Them Apples? π
From the Garden of Hesperides to the Garden of Eden, from the Atalanta and the Trojan War to The Beatles and the iPhone, apples are laden with often conflicting symbolism.

The standard pescatarian choice is a fish finger sarnie too (fish sticks there, right?) so breaded fish in bread.
Glorious stuff.
Oh, what a way to seal it!
There's still more time left than they needed to equalise from last time, mind.
But, a belting goal!
That's what I thought too! Didn't change much based on context up till Kinnock named either.
Conservative game cartoon 3 panels. top; two figures, the right hand one says "let's meet in the middle Middle, both walk to the right, Bottom, repeats the top panel but now the middle is to the right of where the right was originally.
This cartoon does the rounds, but it's pretty good at capturing what you're describing.
Except, of course, here the left hand person isn't gleefully skipping rightwards.

If someone tells you it's raining and another tells you it's dry, it's not your job to quote them both. It's your job to log on to the Internet and report if the president is posting memes of himself shitting on the people he was elected to serve.
If you're after a handful of early britpop indie hits to bolster it, the (I think) 10 Shine compilation albums are not a bad set.
There's a load of the obvious stuff, at least one of Blur, Pulp and Oasis on every album, but there's also a lot of decent but less famous stuff from that era.
