My eyes cannot get big enough
Ooo! It's this a thread where we can show our photos of magnified wood? Because I have some pretty pictures of 1000 year old wood charcoal. But I respect if it's mainly a fossil photo thread.
Boosting the signal for this fantastic show and article by @friede.bsky.social . I can't wait to see what @aabria.bsky.social has in store for us. I will follow you into this warren any day, all day.

π My friends who love her Temeraire books also love the rest of them, so I feel confident in reccing them! I particularly love the Scholomance trilogy, but her folk and fairy tale retellings are really great too. Especially Spinning Silver.
I've done it! I finished Critical Role Campaign 1!!!
It took me a long time because it was my working-in-the-lab show and sometimes I don't work in the lab.
I'm happy to share my thoughts of anyone is interested because I sure have them!!
Gabrielle Zevin Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow. Andy Weir Project Hail Mary. All of Naomi Novik (except hey dragon stuff, but that's a me thing). Most of Taylor Jenkins Reid. T. Kingfisher is coming out with a new book soon that's on my list...
Same! I cannot listen to the sexy parts of romance.
The best audiobook in have ever listened to is Lincoln in the Bardo.
For books that I've enjoyed in no particular order: Rebecca Makai The Great Believers and I Have Some Questions. Emily Tesh Some Desperate Glory.
It's that time of year again! We're collecting monographs, journal articles, and book chapters published in 2023 by historians working off the tenure track. Lists will be published the week after US Thanksgiving. Use the form to submit your work--or that of a friend! ποΈ
What sort of books are you looking for?
Lincoln in the Bardo is an amazing audiobook.
Libro.fm works exactly like Audible but the money goes to an independent bookstore in the US. You can buy all released audiobooks as long as they aren't under Audible exclusive contracts.
Same! Every year I make sure to pick up her May/June release. It's a must read for me even though I usually go in very different directions with romance novels.
If you have any interest in Romance stories at all, Nora Roberts is the way to go. Her standalone books are TOTALLY compelling and never dumb. I recommend her romantic suspense novels to anyone who wants to read some good romance novels.
"I can no longer write requiems for my fallen friends. It is becoming difficult for me to put pain into letters. Russia is taking away my friends and loved ones. Tearing out my heart piece by piece"
After all the effusive praise, I feel like maybe as a fan I don't do enough? It's a very weird feeling to feel from Dropout.
Observation from my international colleagues: "Americans have so many friends! They are always refering to people as friends!" Do Americans have a cultural habit of counting more people as friends than other cultures? Or do I work with very friend-conservative colleagues?
Blasphemy!!!!
It's important to note that I'm pretty sure I will always know language 2 much better than language 3, but I will use language 3 way more often than language 2.
After spending 3/4 of life bilingual, I have recently moved to a country where I am trying to become passibly fluent in a third language. Some days I have no idea WHAT language I'm thinking in, especially when I try to think in language 2 but 3 bubbles up unexpectedly!
I can't wait to see @jwcartwright.bsky.social on D20. He is a delight. As a traveler on the D20-->Naddpod-->3BH-->Transplanar (@byconniechang.bsky.social) pipeline I want it to be strong and fruitful forever.

I love both of them!
Once upon a time I was part of a collective action that formed a union with UAW. Solidarity forever.
I came on here to rep Inkscape! When I was screwed over by Adobe licensing while writing my dissertation (university didn't renew their license) I vowed I would only use Inkscape and other open source programs. Gimp is the open source answer to Photoshop in case people need it!
Doesn't he haunt us all? Once introduced, you can never escape.
Shush you... we are all 25. Not that I want to be 25 again, but I certainly don't want to be grown up advisor age either!
A white woman stands next to a PowerPoint slide that says "Orchards of the Oasis: Fruit Cultivation in the Bukhara Oasis, Uzbekistan during the 1st Millennium CE." The first row of heads listening to the talk are visible in the foreground.
Awesome time in Porto presenting at #Anthraco2023. Always nice to find a your very small academic niche. Photo credit: Stephanie Bodin. #archaeology #anthracology β±οΈ
