getting public records, calling people up and asking them questions ... you know, they should make this a real job and have someone do it in every town.

+1, but at least DWS shows up. She visited Alligator Alcatraz. Moskowitz is only popular on TV, he's a ghost in his district.

When I joined as the head engineer of the Torment Nexus project, it was to work on fascinating technical problems and make the world a better place along the way. I am appalled to discover that the Torment Nexus would be used this way and, now that my options have vested, will be leaving the project

Here's the first-ever Linkedin message from this company, which seems to be a small company run by two millennials with some background in migrant shelters.

Four months ago they suggest they won a contract to run a "mass care site" in Lexington, KY, but this is their first-ever federal contract.

The Campaign to Take Down Alex Bores Is Just the Beginning A leading AI industry-backed Super PAC is targeting a pro-regulation candidate — and building a strategy that other politicians will have to contend with.

So a co-founder of Palantir is funding political attack ads against a guy pushing for AI regulation, who used to work at Palantir, using the fact that he worked at Palantir against him.

(FWIW, I think Bores has some very bad regulation ideas, but still...)

Sure but there’s a difference between calling that zone the Miami-Fort Lauderdale-WPB MSA and “the greater Miami area”. Why not “greater Broward area” since it’s right in the middle

The Anthropic-DOD Conflict: Privacy Protections Shouldn’t Depend On The U.S. military has officially ended its $200 million contract with AI company Anthropic and has ordered all other military contractors to cease use of their products. Why? Because of a dispute

Our privacy should be a collaborative effort between the government and companies–but we cannot rely solely on their goodwill. That’s why we need strict legislative and democratic controls to contain the surveillance state and private industry. www.eff.org/deeplinks/2...

Couple things here:

1. What the fuck
2. I am allllllmost more offended by the suggestion that I would give this shitbox edit than having my identity stolen

People Across The US Are Tearing Down Flock's Traffic Cameras - Here's Why - BGR Rapidly growing surveillance tech company Flock is seeing many of its cameras in cities across the U.S. be torn down by concerned citizens, and here's why.

“To date, the company's tech has been deployed to identify activists, track abortion visits, stalk women, and reinforce racial profiling. Security issues further exacerbated privacy concerns after activists discovered Flock accidentally exposed live camera feeds on the internet.”

I understand why chatbot cheating happens but every time I read about it I want to gently remind everyone that the point of schoolwork is not for the submission to exist. Teachers are not just greedy for more essays or solved equations. The point is to do the work WITH YOUR OWN BRAIN, FOR LEARNING.

It's a neat argument because he's not leaning at all on the quality of the homily's prose or the creativity required to write it, but the intersubjective exchange it consummates.
