I found this in a menu for the Super Chief train from 1950 (research for a novel & a game module). "Steward will gladly arrange for any special diet." Imagine that - people accommodated other's needs even in the 50s. The popular view of the past is often so distorted that it's unrecognizable.
We hear a lot about how older generations were tougher, stronger, didn't coddle people, etc. To some degree this might be true, due to more poverty, less choices, cultures of silence and oppression, etc. But, one thing I love about research; you find that things are not as simple as you might think.
Apparently, Trump is trying to prepare his cult for a "forever war" in Iran. In theory, this should cause some or all of them to protest, given he railed against wars. But, we know, they are servile muppets, begging Trump to tell them what to think and do.

I was just watching a piece on the devastation palm oil plantations are causing in Indonesia, hence my random desire to put all humanity into one megacity and stop f**king over the rest of the world.
If we use the population density of Manhattan as a baseline, we could fit the entire population of the planet into a city the size of Arizona. Start building arcologies and we could get that figure down even more. Then we just leave the rest of the planet alone.

The "pre-Trump normal" is what got us here. We need to tear this rotten structure (economic, political, and cultural systems) down and start over. That includes the Democrat Party. They might be a useful tool for the short-term, but they helped get us here as much as anyone else.
The GOP pretends to like the free market. The free market moved away from coal. But, Trump is paid off by coal companies. So, now we get this spectacle of tax-payer dollars going to support a dying industry. Where are the free marketeers in the GOP decrying this?

The problem is - there is no such thing as conservative art and creativity (at least in America). Conservatives are a repressive force, one that wishes to crush thought and expression into a tiny box of acceptability. A structure dedicated to the arts frightens and confuses these people.
the books are on high-quality paper, have great bindings, and a handy book ribbon. And, no, I am not getting paid for this (although I'm more than willing - call me LOA :-P)

I've been reading the two-volume set "Jim Crow: Voices from a Century of Struggle." This collects material from that period. Fascinating material about the fight for civil rights and the lengths the enemies of progress went to oppress minorities. Check out the website for the full catalog.
With the increasing levels of historical censorship in the US, it is important to have as many bits of hardcopy preserving the truth as possible. One of the best publishers of high quality books preserving the American journey is the Library of America.
