Jacket design for new book The Man Who Broke Reality (US edition).
OK, I have a US jacket design now. I think it looks rather handsome.
The book is published in the autumn, in both the UK (Little Brown) and US (University of Chicago Press).
found some old drilosophers posts in my files. i've contributed something good to this world, i think

Looks like a new funded studentship is out to curate & preserve UK space history: networks.h-net.org/group/announ...
Jon, Doug & Lucie were my old supervisors, I would highly recommend applying for this studentship. Happy to chat to anyone thinking of applying :)

Historians are quite capable of explaining the hellscape that is the US at this particular minute, and its kind of telling that you imagine we won't because it means you haven't been listening or reading

Punished by Rewards by Alfie Kohn. Thought provoking critique of what a reward/punishment framework does to social relations.
And nobody is accusing me of having dehumidifier psychosis (so far) because having a dehumidifier has not yet become a major flashpoint in the culture wars.
(My dehumidifer does have colour changing LEDs in it though for some reason so maybe that lands me in hot water idk)
Here's my $0.02 on the Claude Corner:
The Claude Corner is *also* human users eliciting behaviour from an LLM wrapped in an agentic harness.
Also, it's cute and humans have a tendency to anthropomorphise things. My friend calls his roomba his dipshit son, I call my dehumidifier my swampy son.
These are the people on the other end of online scams and the text scams that you get on your phone.
I'm hiring a postdoc at @cmu.edu (w/ far.ai & @dgrand.bsky.social + @gordpennycook.bsky.social)!
How do LLMs shape human beliefs β and what do we do about it? AI safety meets behavioral science.

Awkward when a pain flare makes it difficult to write.
βIn short, we should expect the level of scrutiny on papers to change dramatically. Most reviewers are not incentivized to look carefully at materials the authors submit beyond the paper text itself.β

The internet has Zack Polanski Derangement Syndrome and it grinds my gears.
I'm genuinely surprised by this, I find the group DM feature janky as hell
I still tend to write out plans by hand to help me refine my thinking and stop getting distracted by the side quests
And this is why we don't let the linear algebra machine play outside the sandbox.

Thank you!!
The question may not be "why are British students taking so many useless degrees?" so much as "why can't the British economy generate enough graduate vacancies?"
Aw commiserations. D: hope your break is restorative

A blunt reminder to document the truth while you can. Memories fade. Records donβt.
The more I think about the dunk economy the more I realise:
- I hate it
- I have cogent critiques of it
