This halftime show makes me believe my country still exists somewhere. We just have to fight to get it back. And it will be worth it.

BREAKING NEWS NEWARK MAYOR RAS BARAKA ARRESTED WHILE PROTESTING ICE Just moments ago, Mayor Baraka was handcuffed and detained by DHS for protesting at a new ICE facility. He was accompanying a congressional delegation at the facility to conduct an oversight inspection. Image Source: New Jersey News 12
THE INCIDENT Baraka attempted to join a scheduled tour of the facility along with New Jersey reps Bonnie Watson Coleman, Rob Menendez and LaMonica Mciver. He was blocked by officials and an argument ensued, which continued even after he had returned to the public side of the gates. A chaotic scene followed where he was surrounded by officers, handcuffed, and taken to a CBP office. Fellow protesters were also caught up in the altercation. Following his arrest, Alina Habba, acting U.S. Attorney for New Jersey, said on X that Baraka trespassed and ignored warnings from Homeland Security personnel to leave Delaney Hall. Baraka has shown here that he is willing to stand up to Trump and his barbaric immigration policies. While the situation evolves, it will be exemplary of how the administration will handle opposition from elected officials. GUBERNATORIAL RUN Baraka is one of six Democrats currently primarying to be the Democratic candidate for governor of New Jersey. The primary will be held on June 10th and the general election will be held on November 4th. He's been outspoken against Trump's immigration policies, especially after an immigration raid in Newark in January that he says was conducted without a warrant. The incident is a continuation of his pushback against the opening of the facility, which he argues did not get the proper permits to open. His administration filed a lawsuit in late March to block its opening on these grounds. FIFTYFIFTY.ONE | VOICESOFFLORIDA.ORG | POL-REV.COM Sources: Ballotpedia, The Guardian, CNBC
FOLLOW US TO STAY UPDATED Baraka's unlawful arrest raises serious concerns about the suppression of dissent and continued erosion of First Amendment rights. The incident is just more evidence that the Trump administration is ramping up its efforts to silence opposition and that not even elected officials are shielded from retaliation. Good morning, Internet People
When you realize youβve just done some illegal shit to a college that 40% of the judges in the district graduated from. 40% of the Circuit court judges graduated from Harvard, too. Oh, and 4 of the 9 SCOTUS justices including Roberts went there.
