Similar in Oz. Psychologists focus on counselling, but canβt prescribe meds. Psychiatrists are MDs with additional training. Usually the Shrink needs to diagnose and prescribe meds. GPs can then manage those meds going forward. Iβm lucky my GP has a focus on mental health, as his mum is bipolar
Pol with bipolar 2 donβt generally experience manic episodes. I get occasional bouts of hypomania, but more frequent bouts of depression. Took a long time for docs to recognise it
Bit of both I reckon. For some it could be a trigger. Others are self medicating.
I rake Quetiapene & fluoxetine but I donβt think the others are available in Oz
Story of my life. Ppl complain about money slipping through the fingers. Doubly so for us bipolars
Sorry you went through that, but glad youβre in a better place now. I donβt think youβre alone in the self hate. Weβre constantly told weβre βless thanβ by others, so we eventually believe it. For myself I find it manifests as major imposter syndrome.
Gβday #Bipolar fam. My little 10 month old granddaughter canβt walk yet, but sheβs already trying parkour and sheβs really talkative about it
At least the psych will prescribe the right meds, but damn they cost $$$
Wow. Who knew Fetterman was racist?
I think I get you. I seem to be able to speak more openly to fellow bp sufferers on bluesky than people i see in person

The scariest thing (so far) is the complete disregard for civilian safety. No exit plan. No transport. Just βcatch an Israeli bus to Egypt & make your own arrangementsβ. The gall of it, after bitching about how Biden left Afghanistan.
Sad. Sheβs gonna cut herself off from ppl who could really help. But yeah, that was my last msg unless she says otherwise.
Iβm so sorry the one person who should be helping you is actually making things worse.
Gβday #BipolarSky fam. My second youngest (they/them) broke their ankle badly & is in hospital awaiting surgery. Their big sister made them a build-a-bear (i think itβs called). It looks like their roller-derby uniform - ironic since thatβs how they broke it in the first place
Sheβs a moron. Apart from when the doc was trying to get the right dose in early days, Iβve never had to up my dose either. I had a bad experience about a decade ago when lithium went toxic n nearly killed me. Since then iβve been on the same dose of Seroquel (quetiapine). 10 ys mostly stable.
Yup
#BipolarSky is just a feed that picks up on keywords, like bipolar, manic etc. Nuthing suss, just a whole bunch of bipolar ppl around the world trying to support each other.
Iβm a (near) 60 husband/father/grandie with BP2. Feel free to check out my feed (or Reeβs) to see who we are.
No, not an agent. I just like to encourage people who are newly diagnosed and/or medicated. Iβve seen too many people give up in frustration when βit doesnβt workβ after a few weeks. Because everyone is different, sometimes thereβs a lot of frustrating trial & error involved. Sometimes months π
Thanks for the inclusion Tricia

Eddie is trying so hard
Stupid. Stupider. Stupidest. What kind of βdoctorβ thinks bipolar can be cured or treated without meds?
Hang in there. It might take a few weeks before the full effect of meds is felt. And your doctor may change the dose depending how you respond. But be patient; itβs worth it.

Gβday #BipolarSky fam. My bubble babies.
