My co-workers were shocked when I said I had no idea what baumkuchen was. And honestly the more they said "baumkuchen" the more confused I got.
You gotta respect Japan's commitment to the preservation of these castles. Odawara castle is a great example of this! I'd also recommend Kumamoto Castle (totally not biased in any possible way)
The worst is when you live in the South and go on a trip up North and COMPLETELY MISS the peak bloom
