It's going to be 68 degrees and sunny in Chicago on Monday
Little ones all over Kuaihelani are in practice mode. Eventually they'll be getting higher than nest height. For now, they'll stretch and train those muscles needed for an eventual 6-foot wingspan!

I am so proud to work with Steve. His courage as a reporter in the face of threats and intimidation is unmatched. May we all dig deep and find just a smidge of it.
This (Steve's arrest) was also ~36 hrs after an ICE agent shot me directly in the face with pepper balls while photographing feds.
Attacks on journalists matter. But as fitfully as we sleep these days, it's nothing in comparison to the fear for their lives and families immigrants are living with.

The rally is small - only a few dozen people. One speaker, going by Bennett, offers their solidarity to Kansans impacted by the new law. They also offer an invitation:
"To my trans siblings in Kansas and beyond, if you decide to leave, Chicago is a great city," they say.
Happening now in Chicago's federal plaza:
A rally is underway in solidarity with trans people in Kansas whose drivers' licenses were suddenly invalidated last week, due to the enactment of a new state law that requires a person's gender on their license to match their assigned sex at birth.

Common or Eurasian coot (Fulica atra) swimming on the surface of the water.
I don't usually bother much with coots, as they are just so common and plentiful. So much so that I didn't realise they have scary red eyes.

Today in weird ways trauma sneaks into your daily life: every once in a while, when out downtown or elsewhere, I get a whiff of *something* in the air that smells like tear gas. Immediate tachycardia
No idea what the odor actually is but will prob be triggered by anything metallic forever now π
Seriously considering buying some kind of lockbox for my phone

We live in capitalism. Its power seems inescapable. So did the divine right of kings. Any human power can be resisted and changed by human beings. Resistance and change often begin in art, and very often in our art, the art of words.

Happening now: anti-war protestors are gathereing in Chicago's Congress Plaza for a demonstration against ongoing U.S. and Israeli attacks on Iran.
Tonight's rally follows a similar protest in Chicago on Saturday; other anti-war actions are being planned across the city over the week.

It is extremely important that you lash out in despair and rage at a total stranger online today. It will fix everything
Each one of those three missiles costs 33% more than the annual budget of the national park where I work.
Alex Pretti would've been 38 years old today.

What comes after this long winter? We have to continue to envision it, agitate for it, and plant the seeds for it so that one day we see its harvest.
What if you had a shamrock shake
"How can I be a good ancestor?" is a spectacular question to ask yourself, especially when times are tough. I will likely never see the end of this hellscape, but someone else might.
Relevance: As with a CCPSA meeting held last month, the focus tonight is on CPD interactions w/ ICE and Border Patrol agents that may violate the Chicago Welcoming City ordinance.
CCPSA said it invited Snelling to participate in tonight's meeting to discuss those concerns.
