De gamejournalistiek dreigde uit Nederland te verdwijnen Daarom zijn we vandaag met Unpause begonnen.
Een gamesite die van onszelf is, zonder uitgever. Ons verdienmodel is simpel: onze lezers kunnen abonneren.

Yeah, anything can be a toy but not necessarily a game. However, one could argue that whenever you start playing with something, you create a temporary game in your head, and design the rules as you go. But I admit that does not really help sharpen the definition.
Gotcha! I once heard the theory that 'game design might one day invent a periodic table like chemistry did that will make eveything clear, but it isn't here yet for sure'. You're putting the work in at least! And your writings are always thought-provoking, so thanks!
Haha yeah I like to believe that 'play' is a state of being that doesn't really survive cold examination and dissection. Like humour, it just gets worse then. But now I get why you want to leave it out of consideration!
I don't understand why reproducing of conventions is relevant, but then again I don't read up on game design theory so I may just be ignorant on this topic. I guess imo, the fundamentals of game design ARE more about play then about the cold artefacts. I don't want to hinder your exploration though
I like these statements but I really do miss the term 'play' in here. Games are about play imo! That seperates video games from regular interactive software.
Google Doc's Dutch spelling correction has plummeted since they introduced AI. It's so bad!
