It was about a year or so ago we were told we should silently concede them the right to illegally rendition people to overseas torture camps in the name of addressing immigration. That was the *savvy* political play we were told.

The USN has been replacing mine countermeasures ships with... Littoral combat ships. Fuck.

β€œI saw how the definition of β€˜terrorism’ was constantly evolving to suit the narrative of each new administration. In this way, everyone was becoming a β€˜terrorist.’ Worse yet, we are seeing this in real time today” with the killings of Alex Pretti, RenΓ©e Good and people arbitrarily labeled β€œantifa.”

The "e-bikes are cheating" trope is just "protected bike lanes are unnecessary because I rode all over the place without them" for a new era: A mix of gatekeeping and survivorship bias that allows the person invoking it to defend their perceived status.

Keep calm and be transparent: advice from scientists who retracted their papers Retractions correct the scientific record, but they have stigma attached to them. Some in the research community want that to change.

We're thrilled to announce the Ctrl-Z Award, a US$2,500 prize for researchers β€œwho discover substantial errors in their published work and take meaningful steps to correct the scientific record."

The grim choice facing the Trump administration: Economic or naval collapse? | CNN Business The Trump administration is currently trapped between the specter of a global economic recession and a naval catastrophe.

This #1 article on CNN right now is a bunch experts strongly implying there is no way out of a global economic recession unless the U.S. Navy turns every shore battery and naval base in Iran into a heap of ash, at terrible cost in lives on both sides

The article doesn't mention it, but Vectus Global is run by Erik Prince. It also doesn't mention that Vectus is colecting taxes at the Dominican border, which is really fucking weird for a military contractor. Seems bad.

Here's a thread featuring clips of key moments from the DC Metropolitan Police body camera footage of the March 17, 2025 DOGE raid on the US Institute of Peace that I obtained as a result of my FOIA lawsuit:

Reposting bc I can't stop thinking about the fact that, as a homeowner, I apparently deserve more than 6 months if I am in crisis and need to figure out how to get the money together to stay in my housing but my neighbors who rent apparently only deserve 30 days.

This puts me at 10 people released. I filed my 1st habeas petition 29 days ago. I am an incredibly small-time, nobody lawyer who knew nothing about immigration law the day I submitted that case. I barely know any more today. I had never sued the federal government and now I've beaten them 10 times.

I live in NJ. The state of NJ, in both percentage and absolute terms, lost more manufacturing jobs than any other state in the union and it's not even close. Every single NJ county lost more jobs than the US average, and most lost >58% of jobs

And yet, nobody interviews "the forgotten man" here.

Cory Booker is sort of like Zohran Mamdani if Zohran had the politics of Bill Clinton but still wanted to make you think he was Zohran Mamdani, so you end up with big bold proposals that don’t really do anything and are stupid

If LLMs were treated as a niche technology for a subset of work, instead of being shoehorned into every aspect of life without consent, you wouldn't have people ready to join the Butlerian Jihad Vanguard.

There is a kind of self-centered chauvinism in the way tech people think of "work" and "use."

Like at this point it’s no secret to the people writing these headlines that this kind of thing has been roundly criticized for years and years. It’s an intentional, conscientious decision on their part. They know they’re propagandists (and, for better or worse, we all are!).
