Yes, I am a big fan of Longo as well. I have read his book with Montevil on organisms and biological time and the one with Bailly on mathematics and the natural sciences. (Interestingly, I first came across Longo's mathematical papers a long time ago, when I was working on information theory.)
I already made a note for myself. Looking at the table of contents, itβs a fairly short book consisting of several essays.
1. A short thread on a Bluesky phenomenon that might be described as "They are a dead-eyed cultist who must be cast out lest the heresy take root!" OP has blocked me for mocking them - I'd usually obscure their name but since they themselves were quote-dunking to demand someone else be blocked ...
I had this thought about The Republic specifically: bsky.app/profile/mrag...
I mean, fair, I did listen to Kansas' _Leftoverture_ in its entirety. Twice.

New post: a bit about AI, a bit about Hans Otto Stormβs βEolithism and design,β a bit about bureaucratic vs poetic technologies, and a bit about coherence and Whitehead. realizable.substack.com/p/coherence-...
That said, I am sure one could take the idea, make it precise, and develop appropriate evals.
... the way it is written just makes me want to dismiss it out of hand. The mix of executive summary and stream-of-consciousness, obviously LLM-written (he does acknowledge it, to be fair), is annoying. It reads like a C- undergrad paper report.
PS The paper looks weird. The proposed quantity is a type of free energy, trading off entropy vs. energy (which in this case is the Mahalanobis distance in the space of activations), but it feeds the temperature into a sigmoid to trade off entropy and energy. Could be interesting. But ...
Just pick the right metric tensor (better yet, learn one from data).

To distract myself from the increasingly disturbing reality, Iβll read this *long* (long!) essay by Peter Ludlow defending analytic philosophy against the charges of running cover for neoliberalism: www.3-16am.co.uk/articles/a-t...

Itβs Negroni-on-the-deck oβclock!
Your regular reminder that Paul Ricoeur can do analytic philosophy better than most analytics.
We can always do the scolding later.

Can agents be alienated from the product of their labor? They have nothing to lose but their chains of thought!
Thank you for reminding me about this record!
On the other hand, it did spill over nontrivially into "mainstream" AI safety thinking (such as it is), and so its influence on what the safety people at OpenAI or Anthropic are thinking is not negligible.
This book is still quite good: link.springer.com/book/10.1007...
The theorem is fine. But yes, these idiots ruin everything they touch.
Subject to resource constraints, thermodynamics, etc. etc., sure.
I mean, that's why you have MIRI researchers freaking out about a result in proof theory. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/L%C3%B6...
