There's certainly something about having an economy with the capacity to anticipate and adapt to change, but that's not easily captured in a sound bite and probably involves more, rather than less, international cooperation and diversification of supply chains.

Matt Goodwin
In some parallel universe Britain is not hindering but helping America and Israel ensure that mad Islamists do not get nuclear weapons, is banning the Islamic Revolutionary Guards (and Muslim Brotherhood), is dramatically increasing spending on national defence, is shutting down pro-Iran vigils on British streets & university campuses, is refusing to hand our own territory to a close ally of China, is helping a growing international coalition tilt the Middle East back toward sanity, is putting our national interest ahead of Labour's woke sectarian interests, and is actually grasping the civilisational moment that we are in. Instead, we have Starmer, Hermer, and a Labour government that are openly betraying our closest allies, humiliating us on the world stage, and presiding over one of the biggest foreign policy blunders in history.
Matt's off on one. I'm getting really confused because I thought Trump claimed to have destroyed Iran's nuclear capabilities last June. And "woke sectarian interests" sound really bad π¬

That always seemed to me to be the problem with securonomics - you just can't insulate the economy from all shocks, nor is it clear that you should. If oil prices rise then we need to use less oil and preventing that delays the adjustment. Obvs there's a debate about how much is temporary/permanent

Rogue states can't be trusted with military power, especially things like nuclear weapons, because they may decide to use force irrationally - erratic leaders lashing out in a fit of pique.
WE can be trusted, we tell ourselves, because WE have regular processes to prevent such things.

That I donβt know but the unwillingness of the Republicans to constrain him suggests he could go quite a way. And thereβs also the possibility that he simply declares them as unreliable and attempts to ignore them. This is the man behind January 6th.

I think that his behaviour gives a very strong signal about how heβs going to approach the mid term elections. At some point the Republicans are going to have to face up to the monster theyβve created before it consumes them as well. Perhaps they ought to look at the French Revolution π€

There is literally no limit to how much damage Trump could inflict on the global economy. He is driven by motives that are completely disconnected from the wellbeing of his own country, let alone the rest of the world. If he thinks it will help in November, he will bankrupt us all.
