There are many types of CDR, only some of which have strong energy couplings. The article is useful that way.

To stop climate change, we need Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR) & emissions cuts. But CDR is just getting started & data gaps are holding it back. The #StateOfCDR offers accessible evidence-based insights to help decision-makers track progress.

For those that have dipped their toe into the issue of the emissions and environmental impact of generative AI, or gone full-on winter-bathing style..
This is an absolutely essential read, dispelling some pernicious myths and underscoring how this risks to be a distraction for the climate movement.

FYI - I am not one of the authors, and I fully recognize the issues of taking key points out of context. I am grateful for Annie's fleshing out the point (though that quote was definitely not front and center).
In any case, I have seen a similar summary to the above in various media sources.

Who cares about carbon dioxide removal? Assessing actors, policy positions, and participation modes within European and United Nations public consultation processes
π : Participation in public consultations on #carbondioxideremoval #CDR remains skewed towards the Global North, for-profit sector & actors from the farming sector, with positions divided between expansive (mostly for-profit actors) & restrictive (mostly NGOs), find @lucillalosi.bsky.social et al.β¬οΈ

Yes, I remember it... this is not to say though that (re)planting of trees does not have a role, particularly when done properly, e.g. multi-species, endemic.
But it does seem to skew discussions with the public when it comes to CDR.

Our comment "Carbon removal beyond the trees" out in @commsearth.bsky.social
We examine unintended outcomes of the popularity (among publics) of planting trees to sequester carbon π³
Notably how such a bias could hamper development of a broad, socially-robust #CDR portfolio
