I would be happier if this was something new, but it isn't. The wealthy and powerful in the US have a long and sordid history going back to the founding when our presidents kept slaves.
What has changed isn't that they got more corrupt but rather that we now think those things are wrong.

As much as I'd love to blame trump, and he deserves a lot of blame, the advent of AI and what people think they will get from it is also a culprit. What I see is not that AI takes jobs but does seem to stop job growth, at least in tech.

In my humble opinion, I think kids need to start with old beater used cars. Good shape but old and used.
