Being a small (and friendly) world, it turned out that I had photographed Gary and Umi at an event over 10 years ago and had captured an intimate moment between best friends resulting in the portrait above.

A wonderful story pre pandemic... when we used to pop by friends houses. My friend had me paint her friend with his best friend and when his other friends saw that painting, the other friend had me paint her husband with his best friend.
The artwork is a monochromatic collaged composition created with bold, black lines and shapes on a light background. It depicts a narrow, winding path or street flanked by dense foliage and architectural structures. Large, dark trees and bushes line the sides, their textured leaves contrasting with the smoother, linear elements of buildings or walls. The path leads into the distance, narrowing towards the center of the piece, creating a sense of depth and perspective. The brushwork is expressive and layered, giving the scene an abstract yet recognizable form. Torn edges and rough patches integrate into the composition, adding a dynamic and fragmented quality to the artwork.

After a bear seriously maimed our plum tree a few years ago, my ever optimistic husband pruned its remaining two branches and two years later we had a bumper crop of 125 pounds of gorgeous Italian prune plums.
