I knew a Holocaust survivor who talked about the importance of notetaking under authoritarianism, to track what normal was and how it shifted. Here's that 𧡠with respect to disability, itself a canary in the fascist coal mine: www.disability-rights-watch.com/2025/02/09/w...
Not the "real targets"? What the fuck would they call rolling back mask mandates, work from home going away, gutting the CDC in the middle of three pandemics, the absolution of Medicaid, cutting back on SNAP, threatening SSI, and ending DEI initiatives? All of that affects disabled people!
Somehow people are still trying to convince me I'm overreacting because disabled people are not the "real" targets, and I'm starting to think you just mean we're not real people.
So true and I have to point out that a lot of those cuts affect disabled people too. And not as collateral damage - itβs intentional, they want to include us too.
Be prepare for Trump refusal to provide ASL interpreters during his briefings. NAD (National Association of the Deaf) sued Trump in his last term & prevailed I am TIRED of oppression & unfair equality for deaf rights. I am also tired of Trumpβs running mouth.

If you look closely, he's saying the quiet part out loud. This faux interpreter outrage isn't only about making fun and being cruel, though I'm sure that's a fun bonus for them. They want to dismantle the ADA and IDEA. Both are targeted by Project 2025, and Rufo is a Heritage Foundation Fellow.
Please stop explaining ASL & CC to me in the replies. I am deaf. I know the difference. Iβm trying to say this as kindly as possible.
Call to action π¨
Persuade journalists to cover the attack on ASL interpreters.
This isnβt the first time itβs happened. Itβs on a much larger scale right now.
SEVERAL massive accounts are advocating against on X.
Quote tweet by Richard Hanania from 1/11/2025. The quoted tweet, which has a community note, is by Christopher F. Rufo on 1/10/2025. Christopher's tweet reads: "I'm sorry, but we have to stop with the ridiculous sign language interpreters, who turn serious press conferences into a farce. There are closed captions on all broadcast channels and streaming services. No wild human gesticulators necessary." The community note (which has supporting .gov links) reads: "Fact: Not all broadcast channels have closed captions, which isn't universally effective anyway; many Deaf rely on ASL for comprehension as ASL offers nuances captions miss. This is part of ADA requirements, passed by GOP." Richard's tweet reads: "The community note shows that the process has been captured by the disability lobby. Itβs not about access, CC works fine. They have to pretend like it doesnβt to force this absurdity onto us. And the ADA amendments of 2008 have led to a nightmare, as I explain in my book."
π PSA for nondisabled people π
It's time to step the FUCK up if you wanna be an ally.
ASL interpretation is being targeted by right wing cry baby douchebags.
Shut this shit down when you see it. SPEAK UP. This barrage of ASL hate is heavier than usual.
Weβre suffering the consequences of that here in WA, we lost our program 15 years ago and itβs still harming our community.

Rep. Balint: "This is such a loss for this incoming president. He has been weakened by Musk, because it's clear that Musk is the one who's calling the shots. He says what the gameplan should be, Trump catches up a few hours later, and then Johnson backtracks from the deal."
i think it is very cool that the political press was basically uninterested in the fact that vance is openly adjacent to/pals around with far-right and Nazi-sympathetic maniacs
Bill Clinton: "People are losing faith in the institutions and in many many places, they're gonna reward the people that destroyed their faith."

An important article to review!
A systematic review of correlations between sign language and spoken/written language. This work will become an important citation for those of us striving to break anti-sign language stigmas in deaf childrenβs education.

Thank you !
I have faced fascism before, in this very country. I was one of 120,000 Japanese Americans summarily rounded up and expelled from our homes at gunpoint, all for the crime of looking like the people who bombed Pearl Harbor.
I spent my childhood behind barbed wire. My parents lost everything. 1/
