I can assure you that small/not-AAA studios are a decent chunk of casework and not immune to the bullshit the big companies can throw on workers.

Is it hubris to think we could even make something that won't eventually become bullshit like the other things have?
Wondering if this is just my own perspective, would love to hear from other folks about community/communication for indie gamedevs.
...I've been feeling less connected than I previously did, and I miss that connection & excitement. Does it make sense to come together to try to make something to facilitate this that's independent of all the other platforms that are either bullshit now or are likely to become bullshit later?
Is the idea of having a large cohesive indie dev community like what pre-Elon Twitter had a pipe dream moving forward? Have others experienced/interpreted similar group splintering with these platform collapses? I got an enormous amount of value out of these communities, but over time...
...it feels like we could be facing further splintering/loss of communities who don't want to carry on, on a new platform.
This thread isn't advocacy for staying on bad platforms; we should move on from them. But how can we retain our gamedev groups & communities in the face of continual shifts?
I feel like Discord has some great indie gamedev groups as well, but facing the likely transition and looking back to Twitter's impact on what felt like a large cohesive community into smaller, segmented communities...
Twitter prior to Elon, for its faults, did have a pretty awesome & interconnected indie gamedev community. It's since splintered to various platforms & feels more scattered. (Mastodon, Bluesky, some others for a while, but nothing feels like it's reached the scale Twitter had)
Something I've noticed w/ ongoing enshitification of communications platforms like Twitter and now Discord is the subsequent fracturing of indie gamedev communities as they transition to other platforms.
𧡠How should we collectively deal with the potential indie gamedev community fracturing as tech platforms collapse?
As I'm seeing people talking about ditching Discord (which I think is the right move) I worry about how established communities will transition.
AWESOME album
This James Baxter animation bit from Gumball is absolutely annihilating me
