LMAO honestly yes!!! sometimes the answer really is "well. this was definitely not intended to be used this way but it fixed the problem lol"
haha i got it eventually! i believe i understand now UE5 is storing lighting channels as separate bits (so they dont stomp each other) (unsure if the render crimes will be successful tho lol)
oscillating between the "i'm god" and "i'm nothing" of digging around in render code to exploit some stencil masks and realizing i have to learn how bitwise operators work.............

Holy shit, the game I worked on for three years is finally announced! I did a lot of tech and combat design work on this game and I'm so proud of it.
That big hammer weapon at the end of the trailer was my baby, I designed and implemented most of it with help from amazing artists and programmers :3
