During the course of my PhD, I’ve been relearning how to rest Small acts of change have helped me to reset and give myself a break.

People with PhDs say they spent years during their studies feeling exhausted and lost their work–life balance. Ashley Moses shares how small acts of change have helped to reset and relearn how to rest.

Plus, WoS is biased towards some disciplines (mostly excluding humanities) and English-written publications (see e.g. doi.org/10.1371/jour...). So unless we fix this, not sure it's a good replacement.
Maybe check OpenAlex (openalex.org)?

#AcademicRant Can we talk **again** about conference registration fees? I'd love to attend "big" conferences, but with EARLY-BIRD fees of €650, I just can't. And I am based in Western Europe. I'd also like to point out the total lack of remote attendance options.
Who are those conferences for? 😀

How do we do more with biodiversity data we've already collected?

I gave a TED Talk on scientific discovery in ecological databases at a joint TED Countdown and Bezos Earth Fund event for #NYClimateWeek this year, and it's now live!

Major Academic Press Calls for β€œPublish or Perish” Reform Just one-third of researchers, publishers, funders and librarians believe academic reward and recognition systems are working well, according to a survey from Cambridge University Press.

We urge academic institutions to weaken the link b/n academic reward & journal article output, & to adopt holistic approaches to evaluating academic performance.” www.insidehighered.com/news/faculty...

we prevent a public intelligence of science. As she says: "β€˜People’ must continue to believe in the fable of β€˜free’ research, driven by curiosity alone towards the discovery of the mysteries of the world." And this prevents scientific communities to publicly denounce their degrading conditions. 3/4
