Last thoughts on RE9:
- It's the only game that's as good as REmake at that kind of gameplay, but only when it's trying to be

Resident Evil has an interesting relationship with Camp. It should be how the game sleeps the back halves of their games interesting! They know how to do it when they want to.

But for some reason, RE7 and 8 put their camp in their first acts, where it really wasn't needed.

I still love the Resident Evil series, but there's always that moment, where you assemble the first set of keys and leave the main house for the first time, where I know I'm leaving The Good Parts behind.

As horror stories resolve, they get less scary. The last decade, I've seen this mitigated by
- Ending without resolving (Hereditary)
- Using horror as a tool (Get Out)
- Going full camp (Weapons)

Horror where the only goal is scares, like Resident Evil, inevitably falls apart halfway through.

Resident Evil 9 is just about everything I could hope for.

But I'm at a part where it's hastily copying The Last of Us' homework and the game does itself no favors by inviting that comparison.
