I love your article! I started listening when I saw they switched to Shadowdark and I love love love this podcast. This is absolutely the highlight of my Thursday night.
Thinking back on yesterday’s 3 hour Shadowdark session:
Character creation took 30 minutes for players brand new to RPGs and explaining the game took about 10 minutes. We then had 2 hours and 20 minutes left for our first session.
Incredibly efficient design.
We did. I have some helpful NPCs on standby too that can appear when needed.
First time DMing Shadowdark today. My players loved character creation. Party of two are a thief and a priest. Lizardfolk damn near killed the thief in the first combat.
Such a great band. I love these guys so much.

I’m currently backing the big Nimble bundle. There is so much to love about it, but I also love Shadowdark. Wondering if I should go all in on one system or could these two cover all my RPG adventuring needs.

DMed the Welcome to Hellfire Club box at my local comic/game shop last night and it went great. It was a mixture of brand new to RPGs and seasoned 5e players. Running my first Shadowdark game this weekend and excited to feel the difference between systems.

It looks great. Really excited to run this. Spent the afternoon printing, cutting, and making a zine out of the rulebook.
Combat rules for FLAIL are this simple. Roll a bunch of d6s. On a 1, do weapon damage. On two 1s, do double weapon dmg. On three 1s, the foe is removed from the game! Further bonuses can then be triggered by making POKER DICE rolls like pairs, triplets, sequences, or full-houses. Check it out!
