Today, on the 7 March 1969, the main section of the Victoria line in London opened. This covered the section from Warren St, the temporary terminus following its progress south from Walthamstow, down to Victoria where the line would stop until 1971 when the Brixton extension opened. But this was the 'major' section, linking across the West End and the first central London tube extension in over 60 years. As the leaflet notes it opened to the public at 1500 and that is because HM The Queen had a go earlier that day to 'officially' open it!
The leaflet is unusual in that, as was becoming more common at the time, it isn't set in LT's famous Johnston typeface. Within a few years and after a bit of internal anguish the company did go back to Johnston. However I do like the V version of the roundel!
It is set in black & white text on a deeper version of the Victoria line blue.
Today, 7 March, marks the opening of the then final stage of the Victoria line on the London Underground in 1969 with the extension from Warren St. to Victoria. The leaflet features the V version of the roundel. The extension to Brixton was to open in 1971. #london #transport

I may be wrong but I *think* the current law is that all new bikes have to be sold with a bell attached, not that all bikes have to have a bell. No idea what the law was in the 1950s or whenever this was published.

The Man Ray “Keeps London Going” tube poster featuring the tube roundel as a planet
I disagree. The beauty of the tube logo is that you can do pretty much anything with it and it still works. (Not really true of the double-arrow.)

Photo from the early 1970s of a man on horseback negotiating the Birmingham inner ring road at Holloway Head
I’m searching for the original and/or rights owner of this fabulous picture of Birmingham in the early 1970s. It popped up on my Instagram feed, but I’ve been unable to track it down.
Any leads? I’m really hoping to use it in a book.
(And would much appreciate a RT please)

New political donation rules won’t stop him giving as much as he likes
In the second half of 2025, one man accounted for almost 40% of all money donated to political parties in the UK: a crypto-billionaire who lives in Thailand.
Britain desperately needs to rewrite its party funding rules.

Good luck getting £20 on eBay for a tape that’s “just about working”.

He also asked why HMS Dragon was sent four weeks ago? Maybe because we didn’t know it was needed four weeks ago, I’d have thought.

there are like 50 people in the country who want the UK to get involved in the Iran War, one of them is Kemi Badenoch, one of them is Nigel Farage, and the other 48 are newspaper columnists

When my son was little I used to sit in on Sunday School with him. One week the teacher said she was going to tell us the story of Jesus at the well.
Teacher: You know what a well is, don’t you?
Small girl: Yes.
Teacher: Good.
Small girl: It’s a large animal that lives in the sea.

The word aitch does not begin with the letter it represents any more than m is mem or n is nen
H is AITCH and when I hear government ministers talking about the HAITCH ESS 2 railway project. I realise the time has come to speak out. To shout out in fact.
