imo, one of the worst things we ever let people get away with believing is "if you're paying attention to me, i'm winning"

when I was a child, I grew up in a violent household. prior to becoming an adult, every member of my immediate family laid hands on each other, and i laid hands on each of them

i learned from a young age, there is nothing empowering or respectable about hurting someone weaker than you

far too many men like the idea of being dangerous. they fantasize about fighting or shooting someone, because it makes them feel powerful. they practice fantasies of home invasions or intervening in a mass shooting, because they wanna be a hero

few who are truly dangerous, though, are eager to be

i wanna be extremely, unambiguously clear here

if you are a man, and you feel a sense of validation or empowerment from things like that "I am the danger" clip

you are a weak and cowardly man

this is dead on

they're not ignorant of the message of these stories. they are deliberately sending the message that, actually, those 𝘭𝘰𝘴𝘦𝘳𝘴 and 𝘸𝘪𝘮𝘱𝘴 who second guess the Badass Hero are wrong

what they 𝘢𝘳𝘦, however, is pathetic little crybabies lol

it took me way too long to realize the thing you acquired was not a framed photo of a titty skeleton at a bus stop, but in fact a very large cutout of a titty skeleton that you took a photo of while at a bus stop. at which point my excitement for you grew three sizes

i think people get the vibe I'm a huge AI hater. not so! there's a ton of machine learning tech I'm intrigued by, and gAI 𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 have some really interesting uses

but between coercive implementation, outright lies about its abilities, and a culture of disdain towards workers...not a fan!

the most reasonable version of this I hear is usually some version of "I don't want a relationship structure where I have to hide my partners existence from each other" which I do get

oh my god, yes, this. as someone who is extremely happily polyamorous

for the love of god, do not "try polyamory" if you don't want to! don't do it because a partner says you have to!

and definitely, don't ever, ever, ever assume it will solve your boundary/communication problems!

I do think there's a disconnect that happens in this discussion, if only because the particulars of everyone's workflow matter so much

but this is exactly why fixating on specific tools, rather than widely applicable skills and concepts, is such a red flag to my mind

Learning, say, Photoshop macros/actions is a nice to have from a productivity standpoint

but understanding design principles and the underlying artistry will always be more important, even for artists that "fall behind" on some tools

i genuinely have a lot of respect for Serenity for killing off Wash "unnecessarily" because it drove home that things end, nothing is permanent, and reinforced the theme of continuing on all the same

it's easy to think that poly relationships have more moving parts or more complex emotional baggage, and there are definitely some unique challenges

but jealousy, time management, communication...they're all pretty transferable challenges! and people fail at them all the time!

a fascinating mathematical quirk of polyamory is that, simply by allowing multiple simultaneous romantic relationships, it's possible to increase the frequency of stuff like messy breakups

beyond that, messy poly relationships have pretty similar problems to monog ones. at least in my experience!
