Paperback copy of 'Queen' by Birgitta Trotzig.
Still digesting this one but hovering in the admired rather than loved camp. It's undeniably powerful though, and if bleak, northern European island based tales are your bag then this is one for you. #wasreading #booksky

Paperback copy of 'That Beautiful Atlantic Waltz' by Malachy Tallack.
I'll be honest, if I'd known what the mysterious something that appeared on Jack's doorstep actually was I wouldn't have bought & read it. But I did and I enjoyed it so well done blurb writer. Tallack's accompanying folk tinged country soundtrack also well worth checking out. #wasreading #booksky

Paperback copy of 'eden' by Jim Crave.
Seen a few sniffy reviews of this but while it doesn't hit the heights of Harvest or Quarantine it's better than decent. Wondering whether the person at Oxfam who priced it up was being mischievous when they classed it as sci-fi. #wasreading #booksky

Slightly battered paperback copy of 'From the Neck Up' by Aliya Whiteley.
Enjoyably varied collection of short stories. The longest, 'Brushwork', also the strongest. Bounced off a few towards the end but I'm putting that down as a me problem. #wasreading #booksky

Paperback copy of 'The Hunter' by Julia Leigh.
Hard to define short novel about a man flown into Tasmania to hunt down a previously thought to extinct thylacine. The wilds & wildlife are the main characters & meaning is often found between the lines. There was a film & having seen the trailer I can't recall whether I saw it. #booksky #wasreading

Starmer has said that what has been allowed to happen at X is "outrageous" and that those responsible should face the "full force of the law," calling their tactics "pathetic" no wait sorry, I got confused, that was him describing Just Stop Oil protesters who put some cornflour on Stonehenge.

"Ho ho ho remember when we thought Bush was as bad as it got hehehe" narrative always ALWAYS ignores the fact: it's because they were as bad as it was allowed to get THEN. That's how bad they could be at that point and they paved the way for it to be the way it is now. Same as in the UK.

Paperback copy of 'Lowest Common Denominator' by Pirkko Saisio.
Unusual autofictional novel or is it memoir? Either way it's an engaging read as Saisio describes her childhood with her nonconforming family interspersed with dealing with her father's death as an adult. Formally inventive too as the perspective switches from 1st to 3rd person throughout. #booksky

Hardback copy of 'Jesus Christ Kinski' by @benjaminmyers76.bsky.social
Is it a Kinski novel or is it an author in lockdown novel? A combo of column a & column b for a novel like no other. Few writers around willing to jump around from something like Rare Singles to a different beast like this. #booksky #wasreading
