This is slightly embarrassing to ask but academic friends if you teach my work in your courses could you be so kind as to let me know which piece, for what course, and of course the university/department etc!
I'd be eternally grateful! if you'd prefer via DM's please feel free!
Thank you!
Got exciting news that I've been accepted to present at #ICA2026 in Cape Town! Anyone who's also heading that way in June (or already there!) do ping!
Thank you!
My deep thanks to the editors Josef Nguyen and Amanda Phillips for their support. The issue as a whole looks fantastic!
I do have an author copy so happy to share for people without institutional access so feel free to email βΊοΈ
Pleased to share that my paper, βYou Can Be Lara Croft Too!β: Examining the Extractive Colonial Logics of Tomb Raider Fan Tourism in Cambodia, has been published in the special edition on Tomb Raider of Feminist Media Histories doi.org/10.1525/fmh....
The plane crash details are terrifying π those poor students where it crashed too
I think we're at war... Surreal to have updates of missile and drone strikes in between pope memes
Sure
Yeah :(
Had to withdraw from a deeply meaningful project because it's increasingly clear that writing about activist spaces might put ppl at risk in terrifying ways. Even if respondents are kept anonymous the writing still creates an accessible chronicle of actions that bad faith actors could use π
Did SCMS put out a statement about Trump's actions putting its members at greater risk this year? I'm not getting conference emails this year but I'm curious
I get undergrads don't know any better but WHOMST is using this for research they actually care about
Ppl keep telling me ai is great for finding initial sources in fields you're not familiar with so I was like FINE ILL TRY π€·πΎ and then every source it gave was either totally made up or didn't say what it claimed at all.....like.... we're so cooked
I have a pre-print so feel free to email me if you'd like access!
The world continues to be awful but works goes on....Sharing my chapter in the (excellent) second edition of the Routledge Companion to Media Fandom where I think through some implications of "transnational fandom" and the challenges that face us as scholars

Yes, I could ask and am weighing the options...it just feels like I'm doing most of the work at this point lol iykwim
It is in peer review, but technically they've addressed the concerns I raised π
Looking at it right now lol
Deeply ironic when you give anon review on smth pointing out that it doesn't deal with race as an aspect of fanwork... and then you get a revised version that completely changes the pitch of the analysis to focus on race...but no scholarship by scholars of colour is referenced
This idea that the "content" is all that matters without the actual writing is so insidious...esp with more and more word processors integrating AI into themselves ugh
ππ
It's so difficult to explain to undergrads and even some postgrads that academic writing ALSO has a voice that needs work and revision to develop π
Feeling a bit doom-ish about the future of academic writing negl... Even good students can't seem to resist using AI to "tweak" their writing because they're convinced the bot is better... But that also means they'll never develop a voice of their own π
Screenshot of tweet from Adam Johnson describing how Voltaire exposed Rousseau for allegedly abandoning his newborn children, because Rousseau had called the theatre immoral.
Bringing this over from twitter because omg Voltaire π± (approving)
If you want to hear my thoughts on the discourse surrounding Ted Lassoβs third season and many smart peopleβs analysis of the overall showβ¦

I dont think it's helpful to deny the sad fact that the apparatus for violent repression of campus (and other) protest has already been extremely well oiled and normalized... so many people who put their their necks on the line to resist have already been fired/suspended
Must admit it's a bit baffling to watch ppl talk about how USA uni admins will be more receptive to repressive policies only now when I've watched peaceful students getting beaten by police for the entirety of the last year
I'm sorry US friends... I know the sinking feeling all too well.. sending love π«
