Neat untidiness: a long-untouched, unmanaged stream channel. With good โwoody debrisโ aiding channel complexity. Features here include pools, riffles, bars. Cascading. Many microhabitats. Birds aplenty โ kingfisher, grey wagtail, heron; willow warbler, numerous song thrush & wren.

While this overwintering season is, overall, the second lowest on record for western monarchs, we are glad to see that the butterflies that DID manage to make it to the overwintering sites appear to have survived the winter decently well. ๐ฆ
