This is what it is like to be held in solitary confinement.
Fiona Apple dropped a new song about pretrial detainment on cash bail. Really cool to see this issue we fight against every day get attention from someone with her platform.

We're up to 38!
Pittsburgh's bail fund @bukitbailfund.bsky.social is doing a LOT of good. They have to take donation by check, but that little extra effort makes ALL the difference.
We've bailed out 31 people in 2025 alone. That's an average of one every three days since the new year. We know the criminal legal system will not stop but neither will we.
Weβre still out here.

Our volunteers have posted 5 bails in the last 4 days. The criminal legal system never stops caging people and we won't stop freeing them.
handed $100 to the right person today and someone is going to get out of jail because of it. small thing, big impact.
Fun (not fun) bail fact! If you have a $1 dollar bail set at the Court of Common Pleas it costs $51 to pay because of a filing fee! 50x the price of freedom in BS fees!
Also, feel free to send bad vibes to the judge who set a $1 bail.
We're active in 3 courts today and more tomorrow. People deserve better than what they're getting from the criminal legal system in Allegheny County.
busy calendar for next week. we're playing calendar tetris so that all these asks get met. maybe judges in Allegheny County could ease up a bit on the whole "pay for your freedom" thing
Thank you Addy! Today, Bukit volunteers were in multiple courts on behalf of half a dozen people and tomorrow we expect to do the same.
Get in touch with us over DM or email re: donations - paper checks work but also your bank likely has a way to directly mail one using Bill Pay processes.
Our writer Vaughn Wright tells the story of what it was like when Luigi Mangione showed up at his Pennsylvania prison. It took a few weeks to get this out because we had to rely on postal mail to ask for the story and get it back without creating problems.
Today a Bail Fund volunteer dropped everything during their afternoon to get down to court and pay something time-sensitive. All of our volunteers are the best frankly.
$100 and a long trip to court and back to get someone out of jail on a Sunday. Our volunteers are the best.
We paid quite literally $50 to get someone out of jail last night. A nice meal for two with tip but instead it's someone's entire freedom.
8a, in a court, paying a paltry sum to keep someone out of jail. Can't make it up - you can buy your freedom.
it's negative whatever out and our volunteers are still going to get someone free today.
We bailed people out through Trump I. Biden, and will continue to bail people out under Trump II. Any support you can give us to make that happen is welcome.
Shame on Magisterial Judge Tara Smith. Setting bail so egregious that one of our volunteers in the courtroom instantly left to go pay it. Holding someone with no criminal history, two jobs, and dependents on flimsy charges is despicable.
Donate! to help our friends sue Georgia cops three Pittsburgh community members were wrongfully arrested in Atlanta January 2023. They still havenβt been brought to trial on the bogus charges, but the time is about to run out to file a lawsuit for false arrest. Thereβs a $400 fee to file so weβre trying to raise $1200 for the three of them to cover the expense. Please donate if you can.
Three local buds were wrongfully arrested in Atlanta in 2023. Letβs help them sue Georgia cops for false arrest. The filings cost $400 each. Letβs try and raise $1200 to cover that expense for them. Venmo: @fuck-the-police (If you canβt do Venmo, get in touch and weβll find another way.)
Hey friends. We finally made the switch here from X. Weβre still very active and have posted 25 bails since August.
